Next Generation Mustang . . .
Ford will go with a less retro look for its next generation Mustang, but will stick with the iconic car’s classic features so that it’ll remain instantly recognizable as a pony car. Planned for release after 2010, the new ‘Stang will arrive a couple of years after the new Camaro. To compensate for the late arrival, Ford will give the current version a minor facelift in 2009 that’s said to resemble the next Mustang. Prominent features will be the new low-slung and wider stance with a small glass-house and pumped wheel arches.
Ford will release a new hatchback of fastback version in addition to the coupe and convertible models. The biggest news is that Ford will call on its Australian subsidiary to co-develop a new platform that will spawn a four-door sedan down under. Power will be up across all models thanks to a 280hp 3.5L V6 in base form, followed by a 4.6LV8 with roughly 400hp. There will of course be a Shelby GT500 version developing in excess of 500hp.

There’s been recent speculation that Ford was planning to debut a new specialty Mustang at the LA Auto Show, which it was co-developing with Italian designer Fabrizio Giugiaro from ItalDesign. This image that turned up on Mustang Forums reveals a suspicious looking car with the classic Mustang shape, but with much smoother lines and a new tail-end. The image was taken in Italy, and its photographer mentioned that the front-end styling resembles that from the Chevrolet Camaro concept.
The interior was said to have been redesigned, while the windshield is integrated with a full glass roof. The latest Mustang concept that’s expected in LA will be collaboration between Ford design head J Mays and the aforementioned Giugiaro, and the car is rumoured to be powered by the most powerful Mustang engine developed so far.
This car could be cursor to the Mustang facelift that’s due in 2009, and is similar to the renderings of the next generation Mustang that turned up recently.

That's exactly what I was thinking. If there's a lot of resemblance between this and the Camaro, GM better get their asses in gear to get that Camaro out on the streets, especially since they're losing big time in that segment to the Mustang currently.
