Default Audi Q5 Spy Shots

Judging by the early success of their new Q7, it looks like Audi knows what it’s doing developing a range of SUVs. Enter the Q5, of which the most recent mule is shown here.

According to Hans Lehmann over at Hidden Image, the funky-looking wagon seen above will sit on a platform that consolidates elements from Audi’s next-generation A4 and A6, and is likely to be longer than the aforementioned X3, as well as rival Mercedes-Benz’s forthcoming GLK. The massively-flared test mule looks more like an Allroad on steroids than a proper SUV, but expect final bodywork to give mimic a Q7 that’s been run through the dryer on high heat.

Drivetrain-wise, Lehmann asserts that the car will borrow heavily from Volkswagen’s Touareg, although the luxury offroader will certainly make use of Audi’s Quattro system.

The Q5 is expected to join the Q7 in showrooms in early 2008.

The rear reminds me of...

... a Honda Civic.

Maybe it's just the taillights...

How's this different from the allroad? It still looks like a jacked-up wagon... Or are they just using a test mule body?

It is not bad and probably looks its meanest in black, but it needs a little more aggressiveness...something is missing there.

the rear end is the same rear end found on a A4 Wagon guys...same with every other panel on the car except them pontoon-sized fenders.

the mule in testing is the chassis, not the actual car. (note the horrendously out of proportion wheels and vehicle height)

Damn, look at those wheels!!

Maybe it's just the angle of the camera but they're huge for a car that size.

All I can say is " Audi Why???"......Please, let this Q7 get some legs. I really dont see anything in this. As stated before this is a smoothed over/ beefed up Allroad. The taillights do absolutely nothing for me. To sum it up........WACK!!
