Default Favorite car magazine

So I just renewed my Car and Driver subscription for another 3 years. I postponed doing it until the last minute as I wasn't sure if I really wanted to renew, even though it's only $36 for 3 years. C&D was the very first car mag I ever subscribed to so I've kind of stuck with it, but I don't know if I'm just getting older and expect more content or if the quality has actually gone down.

I really don't have time to read 10 different magazines and am really looking for one or two entertaining and informative reads. What magazine do you guys suggest for new car reviews? I need something to read while eating cereal!

Thanks, Lexmex. I try to do a thorough general review, but I usually don't drive under conditions where you would push the car to its limits. If you want to see the best 0-60 times, braking distances, skidpad and cornering figures, etc....then of course you would have to go to a magazine like CAR and DRIVER or ROAD and TRACK.

Personally, I've always liked CAR and DRIVER, except for Brock Yates. Consumer Reports, however, is the clear automotive Bible for reliability....they do a better job than anybody else in the buisness of keeping track of repair records....even J.D. Power.

Yeah, I thought someone would have asked this already but I didn't find anything recent, since 2004 that is.

I also do most of my research online. My complaint is that most of the big US auto magazines are run by a bunch of old schoolers, who still swear that nothing out of Asia could ever equal the mighty US brands. (Honestly, since when does having to rev a Honda into VTEC ever been a BAD thing? ) Just about the only editor from the big mags that I actually read is Sam Mitani.

Of course, I much prefer to experience vehicles themselves rather than just read what someone else's opinion is. Reviews are a great starting point, but everyone's got different tastes.

That is true about favoritism. That is why when I read mags, they are stuff like Turbo, Modified Mag, Sport Compact Car sometimes Import Tuner and the local Maxi Tuning magazine down here.

For new car information, the net rules.

I rely on Consumer Reports, but for automotive articles etc I happen to enjoy the columns of Dan Neil in the LA Times.

Otherwise, I like some of the Euro car mags, I was disappointed that MPH magazine folded recently.

I enjoy reading C&D. They do very extensive shakedowns on the cars they test and have entertaining articles. Naysayers will say they are biased towards Honda and BMW...but whatever...C&D has been one of the best over the years.

Brock Yates is one of those ultra polarizing personalities that you either love or hate. I think he's good for the mag...I don't always like what he writes, but C&D wouldn't be the same without him.
