Default let's obey speed limit

i came across this link on another thread, but wanted post here

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...&q=speed+limit

wtf..... i really don't know what else to say except... this couple of retarded people. they really have nothing better to do besides trying to go out and block the whole damn freeway with their stupid "let's go at 55mph together and see what happens"

what they they thinking, they think it's fun? i don't even know what to laugh about. just look at the number of cars blocked and got behind them in the video.... what's the point? the world would be so much better off if you guys didn't block the damn freeway.

anyway, done ranting

Where were all the crazy baja truck drivers when people really needed them around?

Obeying the law by going 55mph? One of the morons even has the audacity to claim his action lawful when in fact, the other butthead driver was talking on the cell phone all the time, all the rest of the traffic was blocked behind them, and the freeway was left with no lane for emergency vehicles to pass by.

Someone should contact the police and have them forward the tape to the appropriate county's (where it was filmed) DA's office for filing.

Or rather, some people simply need to be run over and tossed over the cliff for the society's benefits.

Although I'd be furiously mad if I were one of those sitting in the traffic behind them, I think they do have a valid point and have made it quite clear in the video--that those speed limits do need to be realistic and keep up with the times.

In my opinion:

These people are simply morons who raised an invalid and moot point to justify their own conspiracy to endanger other freeway commuters' lifes.

Even if one considers their perspective valid, it's still not a viable solution to our speed law.
Had these morons been going 75mph altogether on the freeway, the traffic's still going to be a mess because there's literally no room for other cars to pass or slow down in cases of emergency.

Serious car accidents could've been caused had an ambulance tried to get around them. A lot of people would've gotten hurt if one of the cars in the traffic had a blown tire and nowhere to avoid the rest of the traffic.

I have no esteem for their action whatsoever.

it wont be so funny to them once serious road rage occurs and they get followed home causing unpredictable circumstances...

These people suck!

At the end of the video, "Andy" says, how dangerous is it to be obey the law? Well jack&^%$, obviously pretty damn dangerous since your not a cop. But when were behind a cop doing 55, no one flies past him with thier finger raised in the air as they clip his side mirror ....

You know, I dont condone drug use, but I think these people need something better to do.

and what are they going to charge them with? the entire point of the film was to show that if even a small percentage of the population obeys the Mandated Speed Limit then this is the effect. you cant really be charged with any kind of reckless endangerment because it is the drivers behind you doing all the stupid things (passing on a hard shoulder for example).

For what? Doing the SPEED LIMIT! Damn I wonder how much that ticket is?

Now don't get me wrong,That REALLY would **** me off and most likley I would be one of the stupid people going around them on the shoulder, BUT I do see there point. I understand what they were tring to prove and it sounds like they did, people drive too damn fast.

True, car accidents could of been caused but its the samething as if someone doing 80 cuts off the grandma doing 55 and she freaks out and losses control and causes a serious accident. If they first guy had been doing the SPEED LIMIT, the accident would not of happaned.BTW this is a true story that happen on I-10.

As far as the ambulance, why couldn't he get around people? They just could of moved to the right and let it pass, besides i'm pretty sure that if the drives in the vid saw flashing lights coming at them they would of moved.

Thats just my thoughts on it.

What can the DA charge them with? Call up your buddies and drive with them at 55mph IN ALL FOUR OR FIVE LANES OF THE FREEWAY. Better yet, do so before a cop and you'll see what you could or might be charged with.

Actually, you don't even have to be that stupid. Just go in the fast lane by yourself and drive at 55mph here in CA. I guarantee that at one point you will be pulled over by a cop.

The whole point of this stupidity has nothing to do with driving at what speed. It's the fact that they're obstructing the traffic, endangering other people's lifes, practicing unsafe driving (going against the flow of the traffic driving), etc. that make their action unjustified.

And no, the whole point of this video is not to show the effect of one obeying the law. If so then they would not have lined up the entire 4 lanes. A simple logic dictates the fact that no matter how fast or how slow you travel, driving at the same rate of speed in 4 lines is nothing but a perverse way of justifying a stupid way of doing things.

imho, it's not about whether what they do is legal or not, that's not even the point.

it's about courtesy for people on the road. it doesn't need their actions to prove their point, and in fact it's hardly the right one.

moreover, listen to how "excited" the girl was when she said "omg, the whole freeway was empty, it looks so cool" or something like that. if you are really doing a serious research or whatever, that's the last piece of professionalism i would expect.

bunch of morons. and yes, if there was a road rage behind them? they might not be laughing anymore

What they did was stupid and irresponsible, and also pointless because they already knew the answer to their complaint.

55 *is* ridiculous on Atlanta's I-285 because NO ONE goes 55 (or less), except when it's gridlocked due to an accident. What's worse about I-285, is the lanes are VERY NARROW in places where they seem to have jammed 3 lanes into where they may have been 2 in the past. That's unbelievably stupid.

Police/Highway Patrol do this all the time and they don't need 4 cars to do it. No one ever complaints. How many of you will pass them when they are going 60 in a 65?

The ppl in the video were obeying the speed limit (which at that stretch was 55). The pple behind them were NOT obeying - it is this conflict that that causes accidents. Either all obey or all disobey.

Plus - since most of u say that they have a point but are going about proving it the wrong way. How else should they prove it? Most social change come about by some sort of disruption. You have to be in violation of some sort of rule before an authority will take notice.

In California, see Page 21 of the Driver's Handbook:
"However, if you block the normal and reasonable movement of traffic by moving too slowly, you may be given a ticket."

Well if you look at page 20 of the 2006 CA Drivers Handbook:

"You may never legally driver faster than the posted speed limit, even if you think it is safe to do so... All speed limits are based on the ideal driving conditions."

According to this page and our authorities normal and reasonable movement of traffic is the speed limit.

hahahhahah. cal_alum98 tried to make a stupid argument and got it slammed right back in his face.

I think this idea is pretty cool. Its unbelievable how mad some people get when you go the speed limit.

Why are speed limits in place when you can go 5-10 mph over the speed limit. 50 is the new 45? Can i tell that to cops when they pull me over next time?
