another vehicle look
What vehicle would you buy not to replace your GS sedan, but to accompany it?
I have been searching, looking, and researching all types of vehicles I will be choosing someime in the future. I can get most cars at rough blackbook, and others even lower.
Been researching the v12 cl600 2003 and up my
pro's being 2 door and weekend car.
Con not reliable, possible expense when car needs parts. expensive aftermarket
This could be said in the same line as the E 55, sl55, cl55.
1999-2001 porsche c2-c4s ect.
pro reliable and fun car, 2 door. no need for mods
con expensive when needing repairs. age factor perhaps.
used cls55, but would need to sell gs, and not really wanting to do that. I enjoy having a car paid off.
drive gs and just invest all my money into my house, ira and all that boring stuff.
Toyota Supra pro looks, 2 door, power plant phenom, just a nice weekend cruiser.
con too expensive, fairly aged as well. fairly expensive to mod when you want 600hp plus.
I never been a bmw guy, few in family and friends circle. nice but too many horror stores from the 5 series.
Basically I have the gs for a four door, I maintain that car to the max, just wanting something else to have fun with, cuz whats life without some pleasures.
Any new car....lower intrest rates, possible better fuel economy.
The lexus has treated me great, maybe looking for something else.

I'd go for the Porsche. It seems like you've considered that a lot as well.
Perhaps the Z4? Not a lot of people like the style, but it's a nice weekend cruiser. The 3-Series may be better in terms of resale.
Corvette?
I dunno. I'm just rambling now...

I would watch for the RMS (Rear Main Seal) on this 996 gen 911. I was looking at getting a 996 but then read in the porsche magazine that these RMS affect between 50 to 100% of 996's. There is no rhyme or reason for their failure, but it is various places where the engine can begin to leak oil. Its at least a 1k repair.
Go check out some of the 911 forums. They will tell you right away about this problem. Some folks have had their entire motors blow up. I think its about 10k to replace the engine.
I would not consider it reliable. But it sure is a beautiful car and is wonderful to drive.
Good luck!

Well my take would be that you have an extremely reliable BIG car - so time to look for a fun lightweight tossable (sp) car - with stick of course!
Consider an S2000, Z3, even a Miata? Something that is just fun to take out and inexpensive - not something you want to drive every day, that's the GS' job.
I think the 911 is too much car to have as a second car- just me however.

I do agree about the "expensive" part. I am too big of a guy for the s2000. I just have never enjoyed a z3. I think the 911 might be a possibility, but at a cost. I know your a bmw fan doug, and maybe a m3 cab?
I am looking forward to test driving other rides, but in my area, there isn't too many dealerships.

If i were to get a convertible Porsche, I would definitely consider an older one which has been
well cared for. It's a weekend car that you'll occasionally take out so it doesn't have to by
Toyota reliable.
One of my all time favorites is the slantnose. Look here's one for sale. Only asking $25K.
Probably half the price of a 2000+ C2/C4.

I personally love the M3 convertable, but see it more as a daily driver rather than a second car (sorry, but at $65K, I can't think of it as a second car). That's why I said the Z3 - much cheaper than the Z4 and possibly better looking? A 1998/1999 911 would be sweet as well - just spendy.
To be honest, there are so many cars you can choose from, I would take my time and drive as many as possible - when you find the car you love, start looking for a perfect used example.
I think that I would skip the convertable route and look at things like an RX-8, 325/330 coupe, 350z, etc. Anything fun would fit the bill. I totally envy you! I love my car, but sure would like a weekend car like what you are looking at.
