advice/information.....
I'm a new guy.......I drive a 2000 saab 9.3 SE turbo w/ the high output engine....great car daily driver excellant condition.....some modes.....suspension, steering...ect.....
but, I can't do much more to it......I want to get a SC300 or SC400....not, sure...got q's
1] what are the engine numbers for both cars...? na/t...?
2] how hard is it to get another engine and about how nuch are they.....?
any help would be appreciated......thx....
The SC300 uses the I6 2jZ-GE N/A engine, and is swappable with the 2JZ-GTE or 1JZ-GTE turbo motors. You could also look into going NA-T with a turbo kit on the stock motor if you didn't want to swap the 2JZ-GE.
The SC400 uses the V8 1UZ-FE motor.
Swaps can be pricey, but mostly because of labor. You can pick up the motor and all necessary parts for close to $1500. If you do the install yourself, you won't be looking at more than $2000 maximum.
but thought maybe if i got a lexus i would get a more reliable car in the long run....

if a person was to buy a sc3 and sc/turbo charge it, how much slower would it be from 0-60mph than a sc4....?.....thought I might save a little bit in insurance with an sc3...but, will probably buy an sc4 in the end..?
I could go with the sc3 and sc or t/charge it and have a nice/fast car that would suit me fine........
and if the engine goes , I wont have too much trouble finding a replacment....
For a newer, low mileage 1UZ, you're probably going to be almost $2,000 and up. I really don't think that's necessary when you can get an entire SC400 with prices ranging from $5000 to $25000.
A turbo'd SC3 being faster than a SC4? Yes and no. Depends upon what is now in that SC3. I don't believe the stock 2JZ-GTE is faster. Probably on par. Torque will get the SC4 off the line better, but the 2J would probably begin to pull as speeds increase. All of this is moot with a little increase in boost though. Bye-bye SC4.
Supercharging a SC4 I believe is the most expensive route. The only superchargers made to fit the SC's are in Australia and are not cheap. That's just parts alone. More cost effective (and I feel, more efficient) to turbo a SC4. But that again will not be cheap. Just ask Morris who posted in this thread.(His is a turbo GS4 - same engine though) I've been following his build up over tha past year or so and I'm sure he can attest to some of the hurdles he had to overcome!
If you're looking for big power, the SC3 is the cost effective way to go. The 1JZ & 2JZ-GTE are turbo motors. No-brainers, drop in, turn up boost, rather easily hitting 300+ rwhp. Drop a kit on a 2JZ-GE, some fine tuning, same scenario.
Really the decision is up to you. What are your goals vdog?

a car I can build on when I got the funds. ...and drive evryday.....
thats why i am here...I think that the lexus brand is going to get me the best of both worlds...or as close as i can get...
I have tried BMW and SAAB and I think you invest way too much money in those for the return in fun..DON'T GET ME WRONG, THEY ARE NICE....
but, the engines in those will blow with 50k or 60k miles on them...me no like...if you buy one new and baby it they will last a long time....
The interior of the SC3/SC4 are just as nice as the euro car makers....and the things you can do with the SC3 is cool....
the SC4.... not sure, an eight cylinder does have a nice sound and lots of torqe, I'm sure it would be all I would need......
but, I am looking at used cars on line and will buy the most with what I have.........
thanks for the help.....
hey, great web site....
SC'ing a 400 is not going to be easy or cheap, you could probably do a turbo but again it is somewhat of a custom undertaking.
