My buddy traded in his Cayenne (non turbo) for an S4 2004..
Both are leases btw.... my question is that he was "told" that
the s4 is faster than the M3.... is this correct?
Not bashing the s4 but for some reason I thought an 05 M3 is
faster than the 04' S4..?
This is the same guy who thought his Cayenne was faster than
anything out there...lol Poor guy didn't even realize until
I lifted the hood for him that he didn't have the turbo...LMAO
The M3, being lighter and without the drag of Audi's Quattro AWD, is likely to be a little faster 0-60 and have a little better steering feel, but it's hard to beat AWD in the twisties and on slippery surfaces. The next M3........supposedly with a V8......will almost definitely be faster 0-60.
Still is somewhat of a mute point as there are few, if any, places in the U.S. except on race tracks or autocross courses where either one of these two cars can legally be driven at their limits.

I had to LOL a little myself. This dude shells out 60K for a vehicle and doesn't even know what powers it?
the M3 is alot faster than the S4 in the straights, its also alot more fun to drive, but the S4 with a good driver can take an M3 in the twisties, overall the M3 is more of a in your face kinda car while the S4 is more subtle about it but will ge the job done.
I was in the bathroom at my track (1/4 mile) about 5 months ago when an M3 and S4 faced off. Not sure about the years, but they were both not new. I was told by observers that the M3 won the race on time and at the line by about .4 seconds on the ET, but I cannot remember the times and they would be out of wack since I am at high altitude in Mexico City).
Keep in mind a lot of things depends on the weight of the racer, the way they drive and any mods.
BTW, back in August I handed a Cayenne (the non-turbo one like your friend had) a very devastating loss in the 1/4 mile with my modified RX300.
Yes...but you also have to consider that while the standard Cayenne lacks a turbo and is not blisteringly fast, , it is no slouch. It WILL get out of its own way.
Actually without the turbo or even the V8, that V6 247 hp Cayenne is a big slouch with all that weight. The crowd was just laughing at the guy after he got toasted, I felt really bad for him.
from what i know the previous S4 tends to understeer (not the RS4..the S4) due to the front-end bias of the quattro system.
a S4 "Raced" a CTS-V around the Top Gear track....and it had much difficulty keeping up anywhere due to its understeery nature..(going off tarmac, underpowered on straights, etc)
Thanks for the help.... ITs funny how people buy or lease these vehicles and listen to sales reps tell them "how fast the car is"... If I'm selling a performance vehicle I would inflate its real capabilities as well...
B4 he got rid of the Cayenne, it seemed strong but not FAST..... But he wouldn't listen..lol
Even the overall "feel" of the Porsche wore off on me after a while... I just didn't get the 60k feel from that thing....
Now his new (or semi new) 2004 S4 is a good looking machine. I have yet to drive it though..
ITs just hard having a friend who thinks every car he gets is the fastest thing on the road LMAO
I can't wait til I boost my SC and put his Audi in its place

An interesting observation of friends who have the Cayenne and Carrera turbo versions here in Mexico, is that no fun happens until those turbos kick in. It might be the altitude that gives way to turbo lag here big time.
