Default Please Please Please Help Me!!!

Hi to you all,

Well as you may have guessed i'm in some very much needed help/advice. When it comes to cars i know where my feet and hands go and where to fill it up with gas and that's about it. I know that the lexus is a very superior vehicle.

An opportunity has come up for me to own my first lexus. It's a 1996 Celsior. It's done 160,000km's and the asking price is $14,900. I live in New Zealand by the way.

The price is negogiable and i will most likely get it for $12,000 cash. Should i be worried about high km's on it?? I"m not sure and i would so much appreciate all advice given to me by anyone out there.

thank you to anyone who reads this and lends their advice. I'm new to the site too so i hope i find the messages easy.

thanks again and take care

160,000 kms is around 80,000 miles right? If so, that isn't really high mileage for a lexus at all.
I can't comment on the price because I don't know the conversion to US dollars and I'm too lazy to look it up

Welcome to CL.

Try and get some documentation of the car's service and repair history....oil changes, transmission fluid, coolant changes, etc..... I don't remember if your car uses a rubber timing belt, but if it does, 9 years is a long time...it definitely should be replaced even at 80,000 miles. Timing belts can weaken and break from time as well as mileage.

160,000 km = 100,000 miles, not bad for a 96 Celsior. If the car has been kept well maintained, it should go another 160,000 km or even double that if you take good care of it.
