Default I know you guys hate VWs, but...

I like them, and have always had a soft spot for GTis... Look at this mildly modded new MKV golf.. These come out here in 1st and second quarter of 05.

I personally think this car looks amazing, but I may want to keep that to myself around here

I've always liked VWs too, think thew new Golf looks great (that one you linked is VERY well done).

If VW can just pull its act together on the quality issue it'd tempt me to look at one as a daily driver.

Apparently I was a lucky one, but I had my 03 20th anniversary for a year with not one single issue AT ALL. I will buy another VW because I personally had great luck, but I know a lot of people haven't been so lucky.

Been a fan of the GTI since the mid 80s when the US got its first GTI (actually 2nd gen since 1st gen wasn't imported to US).

I keep being tempted. Really had some shameful thoughts about the R32.........................think my GS caught me looking.

Well VW promises this new GTi will be more like the original version. THe R32 is 3400lbs. That is more than an IS 300. And the GTI/Golf keeps getting bigger and bigger. It is no longer the darling hatch in Europe. The competiton is all over it.

R32i s a mean looking hatch.

This is the way model evolution should work. Using the same design cues and signature styles incorporated into an updated, fresh-looking regeneration.

Ford, you listening?

how much those things cost $25-30k?

Saw a Phateon a few weeks back, looks like a blown-up Passat. Hasn't the Passat been out for over seven yrs now.

Civic Si did cross my mind, but overall the VW look more proportioned and less bulbous in the rear.

Yes very Civic minus the Honda quality.

My friend returned his 2002 GTI under the lemon law. Swore he would never buy another VW ever again.
Terrible reliablity problems.

Ditto, that thing is very clean!! I love the exaggerated look created by the lip-less wheels too!
