Hello Everyone,
I need some help with a dispute I had with my friend. He and I got in a huge argument over what car was faster. The GS430 or a BMW 330i, of course I said the GS but he claims the Beemer will be at a mile in the race before the GS could catch. I call BS totally. Although the Beemer could be a stick which will mean he will probably get the jump on the GS but guaranteed him the Beemer (330i) isn't as bad as he thinks when it comes to a GS430.
SO WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK, CAN YOU HELP SETTLE THIS BECAUSE THIS DISCUSSION GOT VERY HEATED.
Off the top of my head, I think I remember seeing that the 330i goes 0-60 in a touch above 6 seconds, while the GS430 is reported as sub 6 seconds. Also, I think I recall that the 1/4 mile times are in favor of the GS by a 1/2 second or so. If these are true, then I think we have a winner.

Drivers Race. 330 has gotten below 6 second times as the GS. Auto vs Auto, drivers race and Manual vs GS about even too with possibly the 330 a very, very slight edge with a perfect start.
Don't let the low hp fool you. BMWs under rate their engines.

Torque is what matters for acceleration, HP for top speed. Turbos also make a difference...a turbo four can often outrun a non-turbo 6.
It is true that BMW sometimes underrates their engines, but with with equal driver's skill and a proper environment for drag racing (not a public road), I'll pick the GS over a 330 automatic; about equal with a 330 stick.
manual trans is def an advantage, especially if the driver knows how to launch and powershift. that's like having a 5500 stall converter out of hole, and then no slippage between gears and less power loss from flywheel to rear wheels. the GS still should pull on him after holeshot.
I still vote for the GS
now imagine if the GS430 had a manual trans I bet it would run high 13.90s in the 1/4 mile
One time I was at a red light near BMW dealer. This 330 with manual jumped first when I wasn't planning to race. Then I slamed on the gas. I passed him by the time I got to 50MPH.
