Question

That looks like a race motor. Look at the exhaust and the amount of "extra" space in the engine compartment. Why do you believe this is a picture of a new production Z06 engine?

2006 Z06 available in TWO VERSIONS!

a 500HP Version and a Z06-R 550HP PADDLE SHIFT (?) VERSION just like the GTS Series car.
(this will of course be the harder to get of the two)

Could look like this photo shop car?

This out of a CTS-V race car and is expected to be used in the Z06.

all of the rumors have said 7.0L V8... there's one article that was posted here a little back that stated this as well.

C5 Z06 and C6 Z06 will share the same hp/L ratio.

Corvette just wants to start an hp war w/the Viper, the next Viper Coupe should be pushing 550-575hp. It's a war they can't win.

GM needs to get their priorities straightned out.

i dont know about all of that. its a good race between and hennesy viper and a lingenfelter vette. so i would think if Gm and Dodge went head on with this war it would be damn close. i would say ford is out of the pic but the gt dosent fall far behind the enzo.

I don't think that the Corvette is in a direct HP war with the Viper, for several reasons. First, Dodge doesn't sell enough Vipers for it to be a serious competitor to the "Vette. Second, in this class of car....with large-displacement V8 and V10 engines, torque is a more significant factor than HP...especially at lower RPM's.
Third, Mercedes-Benz, which owns Dodge outright, is selling its own AMG cars, some of which have a LOT more power than either of these two cars. Fourth, insurance alone on these cars is going to be almost impossible to get if this keeps up. And, fifth, very few customers are going to be buying cars like these if gas prices keep going up.
