Default Hood Vents

What do ya'll think of hood vents on cars? Pros/Cons.

I always wonder about rain and moisture in the engine bay, but on the other hand, like the idea of venting heat from the engine bay.

These Toyota cars generate considerable amounts of heat in there.

I like the simple looking hoods like the Lancer Evo, and similar looking hoods. I hate the hoods that look like some type of transformer/spaceship type of hood. Too much holes or vents in the hood will look really ugly( just my opinion).

I would like to get a vented hood for my sc400 for my car generates alot of heat during the summer. The only bad thing is that every ricer/camaros, stangs will want to race me.

Vented hood+sc400=racer ( according to racers/ricers).

joshthorsc, Hmmm.

Yeah, I don't like too much holes all oaver the place, as I sitll want as close to stock as possible look.

However, I do like the hood vent that the Nissan 280Z has. It's kinda like the NACA type scoops that's also flush with the hood, very nice & functional.

What's your thoughts on that one?

How does one control moisture with vented hoods?

And what about "under hood air turbalance" i've heard about???

Check out the Z forums, i'll see if I can find a pic. But I think their hood vents are very simple and stealthy looking which is why it caught my eye.

Oh, I finally saw the 280z's hood that you are talking about. It has vents on top of the hood but located in the back near the front windshield. Yes, those hood does look nice and stealthy. Now that doesn't say race me all over it and it's perfect for evacuating hot air. Nice, nice!!

They look good on cars that have a sporty look. WRX, Evo, and even the SRT-4 pull it off IMO, and they're functional unlike the damn Ford Mudstain hoods but I don't think a SC400 that doesn't have rims, kit, drop, etc would look good with a hood scoop. I don't know if your SC is stock or not, but just my opinion.
