CTS-V is a gas guzzler. Maybe they should have used the Z06's final drive ratio.
Due to a change in the rated fuel economy for the 2005 model year, the 2005 CTS-V will be subject to a $1,300 federal gas-guzzler tax. The fuel economy calculation was different in 2004 based on the GM product/volume mix for the LS6 engine. Therefore, the EPA mileage rating for the 2005 CTS-V is 15mpg city/23mpg highway.
The base price for CTS-V remains unchanged at $49,995 including destination. The gas-guzzler tax will appear on the vehicle window label as an itemized line in the options section below the standard vehicle price and options installed by manufacturer sections. The tax is considered a memo item and will be shown where tax, title, and dealer fees are currently footnoted on the Internet, price guides, etc.
The assessment of gas-guzzler tax is not unprecedented. In fact, for model year 2003, over 60 models/powertrain configurations were subject to gas-guzzler tax. Among them were manufacturers such as BMW, Audi, Daimler Chrysler (including Mercedes products) Ford/Jaguar/Aston Martin, and Porsche. By comparison, direct competitors for the CTS-V have gas-guzzler taxes assessed. Even with the $1,300 assessment, the CTS-V remains competitively priced at $52,495.
For those who need even more, Mallett offers a range of upgrades, including 6.1-liter and 7.0-liter V8 setups (515 and 580 hp, respectively) with billet cranks, rods and forged pistons. Still not enough? Building on those engines, Mallett adds turbos that push output to 615 hp for the 6.1-liter engine and up to 750 hp for the 7.0-liter. If you're looking at those options, be ready to add another $30,000 to your check made out to Mallett.

I'm glad to see GM trying to keep up with the joneses by offering a car with plenty of go. It's the show that has me in a daze. Sometimes I look at this car and like it. Sometimes I don't. Just couldn't see myself owning something that makes me feel like that. Still...they deserve props for the effort.

Well, Corvette fans probably won't like it. They traditionally have had GM's highest-performing car, though some upper-level Camaros and Firebirds ( now gone, of course ) have come close.
If this 600 HP CTS ever gets into production, my guess is that GM will have to make a 600 HP Corvette like what Dodge has done with the top-line Viper.
Nice car, the power is awesome but just the overall GM build quality does not win me over, I know the previous 5Series was built like a tank, I've actually seen an accident where 1 hit a car head on doing 60 and the BMW guy got out of his car all fine, somehow I wonder if the Caddy can do that, just little things if you look at the car you will notice, especially if you drive a lexus or a german car
