No surprise since Infiniti said the Q50 was returning. This is great news for enthusiasts especially since a manual will be offered. Hoping we even get the Skyline in the states.
As much as I love sedans, this is a huge risk. Infiniti must do something very different or special with it, or it will fall into the exact same problem it had prior. There are not enough Nissan/Infiniti/Skyline fanboys to sustain longterm sales and profits.

I saw a clean stock 1st gen G35 coupe recently - that design aged very well.
All they have to do is just make a modern version and put in twin turbo V6.

The crowd that wants an Infiniti is going to buy it in 15 years from a buy here pay here lot at 26% interest.
I don't see how it gets there without a sufficient original owner crowd, which I just don't see for this car.

Yeah, most of the G35/Q50s got pretty ran down in the used market, there is a stigma associated with them. Not sure how Infiniti can turn around the perception.
Its the same story with most luxury cars. Soo many BMWs e9x,F9x basically running around doing takeover type stuff.
Infiniti needs to stop trying with sedans, they wont work. They need as many CUVs, and SUVs they can rebadge. They need to stop putting in cvts, super complex drivetrains like variable whatever motor. Bring hybrids into the mix.
Sedans can still be successful. The FWD-based QX50 which launched in 2017 was a flop and was largely outsold by the Q50 through 2021.
2022 and on the QX50 took over but the Q50 was already showing it's age and slowing down production. And after all, QX50 and QX55 has been discontinued as well.

I agree and their new products have all been very good. The Armada and QX80 are very well done. If they put that effort into the skyline and Q50/60 that bodes well. And if the Q60 does come back they will be the only Japanese luxury coupe.

QX50 was a dreadful car. I think it was based on the Mercedes GLA, or at least used its 4 cylinder engine, had awful interior and hopelessly dated infotainment system. Q55 was much better looking, but not sure if there were any other improvements.
The Q50 was a good car for the money, at that time Infiniti had zero brand recognition, so they had to undercut pricing and offer very low lease rates. The pandemic changed everything, if they bring it back and offer decent lease rates, they go like hotcakes.
P.S. A good friend of mine still has a Q70L that he purchased new. He absolutely loves it, and the long version is very rare.
With the exception of the two-screen infotainment, I actually really liked the QX50 interior. Really great materials throughout.
I'm not super big into Infiniti but I am not aware of a relationship with the GLA. As for the engine, it isn't shared with Mercedes as it's the Nissan variable compression unit and in my opinion is what really lets the car down.
