General Car Conversation - 2026 Part 1
This has been posted and discussed before lol. That car is an early build car from Turo with 50k miles on it. He lies at some point in the video and says it has very little miles but you can see the mileage on the screen.
He is not wrong about the plastics around the seat bottom, they are terrible and they creak like that unless you fix them, I've fixed mine but build quality inside is one are where they need to do better for the money for sure. Mine is solid but I have made it solid in a couple areas where I shouldn't have to make it so.
You know how picky I am about stuff like that, if my car was like that I would get rid of it. He has an axe to grind for sure.

But where he is correct is that they clearly haven't focused on making the car stay solid and feeI the way it should feel. I have reinforced all that plastic around the seat, oiled those seams so they don't bind, I have had the console apart and added felt around the places where it connects together and supporting the places where it screws together...I should not have to do that on a $140k car.
You can just feel his axe to grind though. Think about it, look at all his review videos, the ONLY one that drags the car in the thumnail is that one. He has plenty of other negative reviews (most of them are) but the thumbnails are all the same, except this thumbnail.

Sounds like you are just as **** particular as I am. I don't think I've ever had a car/bike where I didn't improve something, added felt, and fixed some minor things overlooked from the factory. I just generally obsess over things, if I know there is a missing clip somewhere on a wheel well or underhood plastics, it will just drive me nuts and I wont let it go until I replace it.

He does agree with you the recessed door handles are a gimmick, I believe you but he really showed how they are kinda dumb.
The actual door handles feel properly Mercedes-like at least when they pop out.

Much easier to be happy with a Toyota when you convince yourself the real flagships aren't that good.
Like you the most of my cars I had to do something to get them totally quiet, only two I haven't had to touch at all have been the D4 W12s. The 460 was the worst followed by my 02 LS430 but interestingly not the 06, the 06 was quite good and 2nd to my D4 W12s
Phaeton was damn close but I did have to add some felt to a fee locations, it has THE most solid interior though in terms of the center console and pillars. Dash is a little less so but that's vs again the D4 W12s that I can put 70+ lb of force on everything on the dash with no movement or flex. The weak point on the D4s is the door inner panel when window is rolled down, it flexes if you move the door really quick/hard

In fact the doors are so heavy they have a hard time staying open.
The door handles are totally stupid.
That video is so full of hilarious things. When he presses the button on the trunk box and it springs up and he says "well if you forget all your stuff it will just fly everywhere". Yeah, if you have **** for brains...thats like saying "If you put your hand in the door and slam it on your hand, it'll break your hand!
He is probably just hating on it as you said, he had a 221 and I bet you it was too much car for him and now he has to bash the 223 to justify that internal mental dissonance.

And the issue with posting videos of pressing and tugging on materials is...who does that? What matters is do they vibrate and rattle and feel cheap when you interact with them the way they were meant to be interacted with or when driving the car? They don't. Well, they don't know that I fixed the seat and the console.

The doors are not light, he is full of **** on that. The doors are heavy and solid and close with a great thunk, totally no idea where he is coming from with that.
In fact the doors are so heavy they have a hard time staying open.

The 221 was too much car for him, he posted videos on it. He got rid of it because he was afraid of repairs...as a mechanic. That right there shows you he's not a very good mechanic outside of Toyota/Lexus vehicles he knows. The bottom line is they don't make cars like the LS400 and LS430 anymore, they just don't. BUT...those cars are 20-40 years old now...modern cars are still very high quality, priorities have just shifted somewhat. I love my S580, it has things I wish were better done but every car I have had has had things, the LS400 and LS430 included.

I have had NO issues with my Germans and working on them is not a problem whatsoever. I've had objectively more issues and harder time repairing my LSs so I really don't understand why he was so scared of his 221. I have almost a dozen S-class customers and they have been very very good cars across the board from 55k-350k miles and W220-222
There is some cheapness/rattles etc but it is what it is, if you want to avoid that get an A8 (not shilling, just objectively the most solid/quiet interiors I've been in sub $200k) or just take it apart and apply NVH dressings.

Well, if the plastics and screen move like that in every S-Class, that's a problem.
And good if the doors are heavy, but shutting on their own like that makes them appear light, IDK.
If he's just hating on the car that's stupid.
He did say it drives and rides great at least.

i remember awhile back the car wizard saying the W221 was the "good" S class to get and he really didn't have a whole lot to say against it... meanwhile the early W220 was "bad" one and i don't think anyone is gonna dispute that
ccn always came across as too smooth and comfortable on camera for me to fully trust his skills and good faith as a mechanic lol

If you watch a lot of those reviews, he hates on most things...other than old Lexus and Toyota models. If its built after 2005, he hates on it. Did you watch the clip I posted about the TX where he admonishes Lexus for it being too smooth and quiet?!

They don't, but again if you grab onto any panel in any car and yank on it, its going to move somewhat.
When you go to push them open or hold them open...they're not light.
Thats what he doing...but look at the views, its one of his highest rated videos. He's kind of become like Scotty Kilmer with less arm flailing.
