Same thing with the A7. It lost the flair that the 1st gen A7 had and the metal work looked cheap.

The real stunner was the A6, which imo looked beautiful but looked very basic in most trims. It's metal stamping is still stunning today but the car is very underwhelming visually without the S Line or bigger wheels.

Front end has a withdrawn, cheapened, headlight position and a LOT of injection molded plastic instead of full drop fenders, the cars also lacks the unbroken line from the lights to the trunk with the centers of the doors being very simple round metal, door handles are the insanely lazy and cheap "cut a hole in it" style and wheel arches are near flat with no radius into them from the main fenders. Rear end is uh.....there. Looks very down-market now with no metal complexity, lots of plastic trim and fake diffuser, cheap and generic looking lightbar that reminds of a hyundai with the light up rings topping off the tacky factor.

The most offensive thing to me though is the front end has the extremely cheap style of hood and bumper with massive fake vents, that style of hood/fender/bumper interaction just screams cheap and so much less precision is required vs using the hood itself to frame the grill and lights and how accurate it had to be vs plastic and clips. Softer, weaker, cheaper. Audi. Massively disappointing how badly they have fallen off

Their entire budget went to the stampings on the A6 haha. Beautiful fender curves, while also having that full body width line that stretches front to rear!

But the new C9 comparatively.. looks terrible IMO.

I thought we were talking about the C9? My rant was targeted toward the C9 lol! The C8 looks nice and other than the partial "quarter panel bulge" lines under the full length upper line is very nice to my eyes.

Oh!

I mean.. everything you said about the C9 IMO also applies to the C8 A7 lol. The body curves are very similar and lackluster.

My biggest disappointment is the obvious cost cutting in the C9 where it shares the same hood and diffuser as the B10 A5, as well as the same copy paste interior.

BMW 7series - while new has bold/hideous styling that makes it stand out, there is no more V12, no Alpina B7 which was very popular. The top trims are all EVs. The interior while good quality is way too techy with limited physical controls.
The G70 7 Series is a runaway success compared to the previous model, and Alpina 7s are coming. "Very popular" They maybe sold 500 B7s lol How many V12s do you think they sold? 1,000? Axing the V12 makes perfect sense. 7 Series is now the bestselling flagship sedan like it or not.

The automakers have used their $$$ to develop more Suvs and now EVs while cutting development budgets from sedans, fun cars and convertibles.
Remember, this is a business.

Market towards ChDm, or face cancellation is the assignment. Every program manger who likes their job, knows this and has a promotion ready.

VW group is a primo example of a bad board, making terrible executive decisions, whether cheating on emissions or launching a chunk of their budget towards half **** software hui decisions, only to walk that back.

They will end up doing a coop agreement to be a coachbuilder on chdm makers ev sled, and slap on the "rebirth of a legend, meet the 2028 A8".

It seems like the Germans are all losing their distinctive stamping to adopt the same overly smoothed aerodynamic look. I hate it.

Oh yes 1000% agree, it's disgusting how they've thrown away 30 years of distinct metalwork and design language.

They used to make cars that you can feel and see were the Audi way, all the German brands did so and now they are falling into generics blob and screen slab trash tier.

Insanely cheap, I couldn't believe how bad their EVs are inside but that's also in line with most other EVs so I guess it's normal
