Do you think Lexus will be able to make inroads with this ES in a very competitive ev ecosystem that is the CHDM?
imo this heavily caters to certain things that are in fashion now, but the bubble that the ChDM is currently in, they have RR like features in basic corollas priced cars, like active suspension, rear steer, etc. Like the BZ, toyota is heavily depending on its brand cache as its USP
most of those cars you mention in China, do not sell well.
Chinese cars that sell well do not have crazy features, they are more like Toyotas, and their charging and range is not great. However their price is good and they have appeal to Chinese customers.
Right now best selling vehicle in China is Geely Xingyuan, and that has 30kwh battery and 78hp motor, with max charging speed of 80kw.
However, it is $10k, looks cute, has nice interior with big screen and a lot of room for its Yaris size.
The forthcoming 8ES has certainly emulated the Hyundai Genesis/Genesis G80 in being "oversized", plus tall to accommodate the battery pack too.
The Genesis G80 EV has been discontinued due to poor sales.
Yet Lexus dare to introduce an oversized 8ES EV?
I suspect 8ES will sell well as usual.
Lexus will sell when Genesis can't.
"It’s hard to pin down exact numbers of the G80 sedan, but if Genesis only sold 4,155 of the gas-powered model, then I can’t imagine the G80 Electrified’s sales were ever high."
"Designed from the outset with an electric propulsion system in mind, the G80 lineup nonetheless is primarily an internal combustion vehicle. As a result, its Electrified variant isn't quite as well-rounded as its four- and six-cylinder siblings. For example, the floor-mounted battery reduces head- and legroom in the rear seat, meaning the formerly cosseting luxury sedan felt a bit cramped for the elites riding in the back seat. Trunk space also took a hit in the Electrified G80, falling from 13.1 cubic feet to 10.8."
Why respond to my post at all if you don't even bother to read it lol. The G80 EV hasn't been discontinued. It's also irrelevant to this thread. But I'm sure you know that and are still trolling with misinformation as usual because you're desperate to get under my skin. I'm not interested in feeding your weird grudge so if you want to have a proper discussion, respond to my months old PM instead of continuing with this disingenuous bait.

I'm referring to local US market as relevant in the three links above.

Even with that goalpost move you're still wrong for reasons I already mentioned lol. Now let me shift it back into something thread-relevant.
Lexus IS: Cancelled globally
Lexus RC: Cancelled globally
Lexus LS: Cancelled globally (according to those who attended and spoke to Lexus officials at this ES event)
Effectively the ES and LC (maybe?) will soon be the only non-crossover non-van vehicles that Lexus will sell. The V8 hybrid supercar will be badged as a Toyota, and that other EV concept at this moment remains only a concept. These are the facts of where the brand currently is at. With such a tragic empty list I can understand why you're so fixated on Genesis instead of Lexus.
EDIT: I forgot to mention the LX and GX, but their lives are only tied to their Toyota Land Cruiser counterparts.

Will be interesting to see if forthcoming Lexus ES500e can do what Genesis G80 EV could not do.
