No arguments here, but thats the only plausible explanation I could come up with for why this thing is the way it is.

They don't, I was responding to a poster who said it was what the 20somethings wanted.

oh. Yeah. That makes no sense Toyota is just following the formula that has worked for decades

i hope both gauge and entertainment screens are based on new OS and not the old one as these pictures suggest.

Otherwise, generally looks more luxurious than old ES.

had you not had prior access to a great lexus before that though i'm sure the brand wouldn't have been on your radar yet

It's amazing that Lexus dare make this oversized 8ES EV version - considering that in the infamously oversized Hyundai Genesis/Genesis G80 Series, the Genesis G80 EV is being discontinued due to poor sales.

I like that color but it looks terrible inside and out. The current ES is absolutely stunning so it’s pretty disappointing to me.

Do you think Lexus will be able to make inroads with this ES in a very competitive ev ecosystem that is the CHDM?

imo this heavily caters to certain things that are in fashion now, but the bubble that the ChDM is currently in, they have RR like features in basic corollas priced cars, like active suspension, rear steer, etc. Like the BZ, toyota is heavily depending on its brand cache as its USP

Another weak trolling attempt by bringing up Genesis unprompted again, and also irrelevant to the thread. Also factually wrong as G80 EV isn't discontinued, the refresh made it LWB only which was never going to be sold in the US.

Respond to the substance of my posts or don't respond at all, I've sent you a PM months ago on this matter (which you never responded to) but it seems you still can't let your old habits die.

No, but the current ES is the most successful model Lexus sells in China based on volume, with their other big moneymaker being the LM van because of the massive profit margins of a $200K FWD platform. That's why they're really catering it to the Chinese this time around.

Based on the initial reports of range and acceleration from the official press releases, this vehicle is not at all competitive as an EV. But the primary strength that made the ES stand out in the Chinese market (huge interior volume for a FWD platform, great for chauffeuring) is still there. Because of this I think the 4-cylinder hybrid will be more successful than the EV in China even disregarding how cutthroat the EV market is there, because it's already quite successful as an ICE vehicle in China.

The forthcoming 8ES has certainly emulated the Hyundai Genesis/Genesis G80 in being "oversized", plus tall to accommodate the battery pack too.
The Genesis G80 EV has been discontinued due to poor sales.
Yet Lexus dare to introduce an oversized 8ES EV?
I suspect 8ES will sell well as usual.
Lexus will sell when Genesis can't.

The Genesis G80 Electrified Is Officially Dead For 2025
Genesis Quietly Discontinued The Electrified G80 In July
Genesis Quietly Pulls the Plug on the G80 Electrified for 2025 : Automotive Addicts

"It’s hard to pin down exact numbers of the G80 sedan, but if Genesis only sold 4,155 of the gas-powered model, then I can’t imagine the G80 Electrified’s sales were ever high."

"Designed from the outset with an electric propulsion system in mind, the G80 lineup nonetheless is primarily an internal combustion vehicle. As a result, its Electrified variant isn't quite as well-rounded as its four- and six-cylinder siblings. For example, the floor-mounted battery reduces head- and legroom in the rear seat, meaning the formerly cosseting luxury sedan felt a bit cramped for the elites riding in the back seat. Trunk space also took a hit in the Electrified G80, falling from 13.1 cubic feet to 10.8."

G80 EV isn't discontinued just no longer sold in the US. I read they only sold 120 of them here.
