The interior is just ok at best. The exterior is awful. I can't warm up to it even a little. Black or a dark grey color could hide some of it's terrible design.

Who knows? Maybe it'll end up being a big sales hit.

oh it wouldn’t surprise me. the consumer reports crowd have to trade in and get something at some point.

i’m sure the new ‘bold styling’ is intended to get some buyers who aren’t eligible for medicare but i don’t think it will work.

Not sure who this "Consumer Reports club" is but agree that it will be interesting to see if a new sedan can be a sales success these days. Lexus/Toyota will take any sales that they can get from the 65+ Medicare crowd.

See my RZ review in EV Chat and look at the specs for this year's RZ, which will be the basis for the ES.

I think this is Toyota's attempt to produce something they think the EV market wants or is heading towards. Not for me, but I'm an old guy, I assume this is what young 20 something year olds want nowadays?

Young 20somethings don’t want an ES. That’s the danger in this strategy.

Well, I bought 2 in my 20s but I am weird!

Thats the point they never have, so Lexus shouldn't chase that buyer

Where does it say they are chasing that buyer?

Most sales of this car in the US won't even be the EV version, it'll primarily be the hybrid 4-cylinder. But this is something geared specifically towards the Chinese market, and so any byproduct of what they consider success in the US is only an afterthought.

I like it.
The outside.
The inside.
However, so big and cheap FWD-based with single lower link MacPherson strut suspension; hard to park, but then with age, I hopefully won't be dumping my car into corners and roundabouts any longer.

Lexus is in such a weird place as a brand.

It’s a tough time right now and the ES represents a safe entry for them with minimal investment. Since LS and IS will be gone, i’m sure they can find Lexus customers that will buy this new ES. I didn’t find it too bad. The interior size is amazing, would make a great Uber!
