It was a Worthless feature

Can we get rid of the Seatbelt chime next and bring back the ability to move the car with door open.

Not myopic. There is a definite market for BEVs, and a dedicated group of customers who will indeed buy and drive them. But I just don't think that BEVs will ever be the answer for everyone, at least anytime soon....for the reasons I mentioned earlier.

You can probably get rid of it now by simply buckling up the belt and let it sit on the seat underneath your butt. But that chime (and the blinking red warning-light) are there for a reason. Belts are considered the primary restraining-device in a crash...even more-so than the air bags themselves, which are considered secondary. In fact, many states have belt-use laws.

Battery electric sales since 2010. Yes your thinking is myopic and frankly denying reality. Thankfully despite what you believe, we are fast moving away from highly polluting cars.

It’s headed that way but posting just in case. NOT an EV thread.

In restraint-language, supplementary means secondary.

Other "tricks" are ok by me, like cylinder deactivation as long as reliability isn't affected. I know that helped me get 25MPG in the Yukon that day. You can't tell when it's working and they've had it for like 15+ years to try to get it right. It seems like it works and is completely transparent.
I wouldn’t say I want it, but with the 48v system I don’t mind it.

Back to the original topic, does anyone agree that that the simplest thing to do would be for the auto companies to just make the on/off button for the start/stop system permanent instead of temporary, with the ignition? That would not involve any major engineering or production changes from what they have now...just re-programming the button.

Airbags are called Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). Something secondary would be a secondary braking system that assists in emergency braking moments

Like a seat heater physical switch you can leave on but to leave the S/S off, that would be ideal

Thats how it works when you code it off. It just remembers what you set it to.

Seatbelt chimes are OBNOXIOUSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

It won't shut up....ever, in the GMC. The LX will chime at you annoyingly but stop after about 30 seconds.

Like I've said before I wear my seatbelt but I don't always have it on right away, and these damn chimes annoy the crap out of me.

My 540i used to remember the setting. An update must have reset that or when I flashed a tune. Now it resets every trip.
