Default 2025 GX 550 Announced

It feels like just yesterday that the 2024 GX debuted, but it's that time of year again. Time for the new model year! I'm looking over the press release now. No major changes year over year, as one might expect the year after an all-new generation debut. They haven't even given us new press photos.

But here are some interesting tidbits:
  • Overtrail & Overtrail+ are getting a 1-inch factory suspension lift (this pushes minimum ground clearance from 8.66 to 9.84 inches)
  • Lexus Memory System and power tilt-and-telescopic steering column are now standard on all grades (it was NOT on Premium & Overtrail last year)
  • Prices are up... $1K for the base Premium model and OVER $3K for the Overtrails.
Here's all the 2025 base pricing for each grade (MSRP + DPH):
  • Premium: $65,285 (up $1,035)
  • Premium+: $69,750 (up $500)
  • Luxury: $77,750 (up $500)
  • Luxury+: $81,750 (up $500)
  • Overtrail: $72,930 (up $3,680)
  • Overtrail+: $80,395 (up $3,145)
Here's all the 2024 base pricing for each grade (MSRP + DPH):
  • Premium: $64,250
  • Premium+: $69,250
  • Luxury: $77,250
  • Luxury+: $81,250
  • Overtrail: $69,250
  • Overtrail+: $77,250

It's too bad the engine really ruins the whole package.

I keep monitoring the forums but haven't seen any reported issues. I'm hoping they have it figured out.

so it would seem the market disagrees with both of you.

i know you guys are all about hatred of 4 cylinder engines, lol, but today i drove a vw jetta. surprisingly quiet and smooth. even the engine start/stop was very minimally noticeable. and this one wasn't new (26k mi).

Nice summary.

one thing I think is just terrible is the fixed glass roof. I think this started with Tesla and it’s a bad trend we now see with EVs . Only one trim level features it which is even more strange.

GX is a nice rig. Really good set up. Too bad Toyota dials back the HP rating. The looks are fantastic and the interior is so nice. If I were updating, this would be it.

Hey don't lump me in, I'm fine generally with turbo charged small engines(though I still prefer a turbo 6 over a turbo 4). It's the specific engine in the GX550 that I dislike because it's famous for spinning bearings.

I'm not "all about hatred" of anything. But no, I don't care for 4 cylinder cars.

They're just not very pleasant engines and don't ever sound good, at all.

Meanwhile I'm here wondering why a Mercedes TTV6 seems so harsh under 3k rpm lol!

‘There is nothing wrong with 4 cylinders, 6 cylinder or 8 cylinder motors, they all have a time and place. The issue that some have like @AJT123 who has four V8 engines is that the replacement is a downsized motor ( turbo added or hybrid is not the real, issue). It would be much more accepting if there was an equally sized turbo replacement. Lexus lacking a high tech turbocharged V8 as a replacement to thire 4.6/5.0/5.7 V8s is disgraceful. Lexus might go down as the only luxury to never have a twin turbo V8. Even Cadillac had a twin turbo V8. Oh and I forgot no Lexus V12, at least Toyota had a V12. Some of us appreciate older engines too. In the new Land Cruiser 2024 redesign, Toyota has a V6 hot V turbo diesel while at the same time they offer the 2.7 I4 that is even more ancient than your 5.0L or my 4.0L engine.

Are you sure your Jetta didn’t have a 3 cylinder?

Prefer the Land Cruiser's styling over this.

Absolute deal breaker for us.

I ran down and pulled away from C6 Z06 on slicks and a ZL1 on track recently. Maybe didn’t sound as good as the LS7 and LT4 but the turbo spooling from the 4 banger had a nice tone to it, to me at least.

Glass roof that doesn’t open.

Also with the TX550+ not having a roof at all made us pass on it for now as well.
