I never thought much of the First-Generation Chevy Trax...to even call it an appliance on wheels was clearly stretching it.
Definitely not the case with its replacement Second-Generation version...totally restyled and given a LOT of standard equipment for a very low price. It is one of the biggest turnarounds in a short time that I've ever seen for an automotive nameplate. It it still not a upmarket-grade vehicle by any means in the interior and materials, but, in general, you do get more than what you pay for. As of the 3rd-Quarter of 2024, It has now become the top-selling vehicle in the subcompact-crossover segment.....ahead of some well-established European, Japanese, and Korean rivals, and its own sister Buick subcompact crossovers.
I just posted the article itself, because it contains some graphs, charts, and images that cannot be copied/pasted correctly.

Tons of fleet sales. In Orlando for instance the parking garage for the rental cars was full of these

I believe these will sell like hot cakes if the price is right.
What kind of money are we talking?
Any engine and mpg info?
Tell you what, I'd drive it! 🏆

That's part of the reason for the thread...it is selling very well, even taking into account fleet-sales. Originally Posted by Margate330

Base prices run between 20-25K....so they are currently one of the most affordable new vehicles in the American market. Perhaps (?) THE most affordable vehicle, when you see what you get standard for that price. What kind of money are we talking?

There are, of course, some restrictions. They are limited to a FWD setup with the smaller 1.2L turbo three (AWD and the 1.3L used in the Trailblazer are not available). You do get a real transmission, though....a standard 6-speed automatic instead of an annoying CVT. It is, of course, simpler and cheaper to produce than the 9-speed auto used in AWD Trailblazers....and still better than the CVT.

@mmarshall what would you say is Ford's answer to this?
Even with the dinky engine, for the money it looks hard to beat.
Of course, I can be totally off on that so I'm just guessing. 🫸🫷

Right now, in the American market, I would say that Ford doesn't have a Trax-type crossover to directly compete in this size and price-range. The former EcoSport, which was even smaller than the Trax, has been discontinued......the diminutive EcoSport, IMHO, was never really intended for the American market. The plug-in-hybrid C-Max, which was also about the same size as the Trax, was also discontinued. The current Maverick, which starts at 23-24K, is more of a crossover-truck than a Trax-fighter. The Escape, which is currently their entry-level crossover, is both larger and significantly more expensive than the Trax....the Escape competes more with the Chevy Equinox.
But, conversely, Ford has two significant one-ups on GM. GM (foolishly, IMHO) never developed an off-road-capable vehicle to compete with the hugely popular Ford Bronco in that price-range....the Blazer, was, instead, made into another mid-sized crossover to go shopping that the mall. And GM has yet to offer a nice small inexpensive crossover truck to compete with the Maverick.

It's considered one of the best values on the market today if one does not has a lot of money to spend. The jury, though, may still be out on the ultimate durability of those small turbo-three engines.Even with the dinky engine, for the money it looks hard to beat.

All the Broncos I see just go shopping at the mall lol. Just sayin.
If you took the fleet sales out of this I bet the sales numbers wouldn’t be nearly as impressive.

That's not surprising. Yes, you're going to see them there....that's where you and your wife (and many Bronco drivers) probably do much of your shopping. And you and I both live in well-paved-over urban/suburban areas. But Broncos, like Wranglers, are well-capable of slogging it out off-road for those in rural areas who live, work, or recreate under those conditions. Although I know that Subarus are quite popular in that area, I'd wager you also see a fair number of Broncos in and around Beckley when you travel there.....at least for those in West Virginia who can afford relatively new vehicles. Perhaps (?) so.. I can't argue either way on that.....the sales-figures aren't always broken down by rental/non-rental classification. But that could possibly be said about some of its competitors as well.If you took the fleet sales out of this I bet the sales numbers wouldn’t be nearly as impressive.

The vast, vast majority of all “off-road SUVs” in this country are not used off-road, that’s just a fact. There are a few people out there that buy $60,000 Broncos and take them off-road but most people don’t. This vehicle for most people is just en ego purchase.

I do see some when I'm on the trails though, as well as 4Runners and Wranglers. I'd hate for them to lose their selection because other people don't use the vehicle for it's intended purpose.

I have no issue with the vehicle existing, people can buy what they want. I just find it amusing.

Although I see some here and there,, I'm surprised that more of the two-door versions don't sell better....they are the true retro-versions, have the most personality, and the ones most reminiscient of the versions of decades ago. I guess most of the owners today have families, and need the four doors. It's also possible that the ride on the two-door version, with the tall structure and short wheelbase, is just too choppy for most people.

Back on topic (Chevy Trax), here are the 2025 colors....IMO a pretty nice choice. I think the sage (Cacti) Green is probably the most sophisticated color....although the blue and yellow are the most eye-opening.

2 Door vehicles just don't have a lot of utility and appeal. They also sell way more 4 door versions than they do 2 door Wranglers now.
Saw two Broncos today, both spotlessly detailed lol
