Yes, that's a given....four doors are more utile. But you also said that a lot of people were buying Broncos just to satisfy their egos. Unless they had families, or needed more potential cargo-room for carrying things, those who would simply want the retro-design for ego or nostalgia purposes might be expected to go for the classic two-door.

Saw two Broncos today, both spotlessly detailed lol

Quote: The vast, vast majority of all “off-road SUVs” in this country are not used off-road, that’s just a fact. There are a few people out there that buy $60,000 Broncos and take them off-road but most people don’t. This vehicle for most people is just en ego purchase.
I mean would you take a new 50k+ car out onto the trails and beat on it or a $5k suv that won't lose 10k in value on the first body crunch?

Some can and do but like track cars most people use older stuff to play around with, I'm very much in the camp of drive a car unless you actually need the suv aspects. I started with trucks and SUVs and while yes it's nice to know you can do whatever is needed you end up almost never needing the capability day to day and a car is so much better to drive.

Quote: Although I see some here and there,, I'm surprised that more of the two-door versions don't sell better....they are the true retro-versions, have the most personality, and the ones most reminiscient of the versions of decades ago. I guess most of the owners today have families, and need the four doors. It's also possible that the ride on the two-door version, with the tall structure and short wheelbase, is just too choppy for most people.

The 2 door versions don't sell better because very few people really care about nostalgia, and a 4-door vehicle is much more practical, especially for the vast majority of owners who never drive off pavement. Look around at Wranglers--most of those you see on the road are 4 doors.

Very few people are buying these cars because they are retro--they are buying them because they are "cool".

Americans just don't want 2 door vehicles, they want 4 door vehicles. Thats proven by the success of 4 door vehicles over 2 door models when both are available. Even before I had kids I never wanted a 2 door car, I have always preferred 4 door cars. They're just more useful.

And people with families are some of the biggest ego buyers there are, because they are fighting against the idea in their own head that they are domesticated and their time for freedom and fun is over. Hence why you see parents driving around in anything but a minivan.

Out in the world. One of them had a national parks sticker which was hilarious because it so obviously had never been to a national park lol
