lol. On the upside it's easy to find Nissan's at salvage yards.
True but it always confounds me that an Altima engine or trans cost so much, meanwhile they basically give away LS engines and trans. ES major parts are more expensive though but that's tracks with failure rates, mostly owner induced thankfully
Depends on what you’re comparing it to. You’re talking about people not being able to afford things, not everybody can afford a used Toyota that costs 3 times what a used Nissan costs.

It’s supply and demand. There is demand for the Altima parts…

Totally right, that's indeed why used Toyota/Lexus is a double edged sword. Way more expensive and you better pray it doesn't break if you already sunk a bunch into buying it, issue is I've noticed more and more they aren't immune to issues.
Plus those issues cost more to fix than their peers due to book time and parts costs, I also personally hate them because it's hard to even match book time yet alone beat it due to multiple factors vs other brands.
Used parts demand is a VERY good meter to see if a car breaks a lot in that area and strong demand usually
means common issues. That's why Toyota trans are almost always cheap except the ones known to have issues

New transmission for that Altima is $5,000 Canadian not even close to being worth doing. For many cars I'd source a used tranny but there is no point the used unit has a high likelihood of being junk. It's actually shame since the rest of the car is fine and they haven't had any other problems with it.
I even used genuine Nissan fluid since I don't have much experience with Nissan CVTs didn't want to experiment.
I would rather have this Nissan over any ICE Hyundai. 🤣
Spoiler
I dislike Hyundai Ice cars that much. Lol
I have only driven rental hyundai /kias and i agree with you but i think stellantis takes the cake (jeep compass, 200, etc). hyundai ev's on the other hand I was super impressed with
We had a 2002 Maxima that was a great vehicle for it's day. Took a beating and kept on going. Unfortunately, Nissan seemed to boost their bottom line selling to fleet/rental companies and putting sub-par CVT's in their vehicles. The last design/redesign of their vehicles made them all look the same. Around here a lot of Nissans for sale are former rentals that hurt resale values, as they are sold for less than what a retail customer would probably want for their vehicle should they want to sell. Maybe the new Murano will help turn this around, but only time will tell.
