that might be one of the most disingenuous pieces of disinformation i've seen on here. and tons of people live with large trucks and love them. you may not be one of them because you have no need for one.
Ford is the most recalled brand in the USA.
you judge reliability by recalls. i don't. would you rather manufacturers cover things up like toyota has multiple times? if manufacturers are engaged in rapid change then there's going to be recalls. toyota has innovated very little in the past 2 decades, and when they have tried recently (tt v6) look at the result, oh hey, recalls now requiring the whole engine to be replaced!
Ohhhhhh! You went there!!!! I wasn't going to but you opened the floodgates haha!
There are few things more uncomfortable than towing with a 1/2 ton near or past it's limits, it is SO much nicer to use a real truck when you have any actual weight.
Back to the original topic, my advice for anyone looking for a Lexus or Toyota V8, be patient and find a nice example with the 1UZ or 3UZ. The UZ is a master class in making the best engine possible if you really want to dig into it look up Lexus project F1.
They made some nice looking small boats also with the UZ.

You hit the nail on the head. Toyota hasn't innovated in 20 years, their engines and tech are outdated. My 2010 IS350 had 306 HP to the crank, today, 14 years later a 2024 IS350 F-Sport has, get this, 311 HP to the crank Lexus was once competing with the likes of BMW and Audi...what happened?

Versatile engine. It's now seeing a 2nd life in the swap world everything from Nissan's to GT86's, I helped do one in a 240SX the engine fits perfectly!

The 2GR-FSE blew me away with its performance when it debuted. Really impressive 0-60 and 1/4 mi times/trap speeds for a 3.5L V6. Unfortunately the engine is basically unchanged since 2006. Yea yea...they gave it an update in 2016 that was so insignificant, what was the point?
Toyota should have had the TTV6 ready for the 3IS debut in 2014 to compete with the 335.

Oh yeah, it blew me away as well. My 2nd Gen was one of my favorite cars, I wanted an IS350 since they first came out. But then I test drove the 2021, and the only thing that had changed was the 8 speed, tuned a bit smoother and quieter, and the F-Sport seats and adjustable suspension. But it was actually slower than my 2nd gen.....
I totally agree, had they been working on the TTV6 going back to 2014, it would have been ready for prime time. BTW, my 0 to 60 in my 2010 was around 5 seconds. You can click on my links in my signature to see a run I did

2JZ and 2GR have almost exactly the same hp per liter. Heck even the engine the 2GR replaced, the 3MZ-FE is only a few hp per liter less. But it's not only about power there are 4-cylinder engines that far surpass the 1UZ in power but you'll never fall in love with those engines.
And I will die on this hill, the 3MZ-FE is Toyota's best V6 it has no flaws.
It's telling that the pinnacle IS, the IS500, is not an M3 competitor. It competes with the M340i.
And domestic trucks are pretty reliable. There's a reason they heavily outnumber Toyotas in the trades and on farms. And it's not because truck owners are backwards imbeciles. They don't need Jill's expert opinion on trucks to make their decision.
