Default Lexus Integrated Dash Cam Troubleshooting

So I bought the integrated dash cam and I ran into a few issues with setting it up. I searched these forums and found some help to resolve some of the issues but not all of them and thought I’d make a thread to make it easier for future people to find solutions on one thread.

Connecting the camera to the app gave me a lot of issues. Someone in the ES forums had said their VPN was causing the issue. That was also the same for me. However, (using an iPhone) I turned my VPN off only to discover it would turn back on. I use a VPN through Norton so I also had to go back to the Norton app and specifically turn off the VPN in their for it to remain off through the general setting in iPhone.

One thing I couldn’t find a solution to was how to download videos to your phone. Now on the app, there is a download function. However, it only lets you view the downloaded video(s) through the app. I couldn’t find a way to actually transfer the video to my “files” folder or to my “photos” folder to then make it easy to share/upload/do whatever you have to do with it.

I don’t know why they make the app so difficult but on the first screenshot below, you’ll see that you can select a downloaded video but the only option is to delete it. If you actually start watching the video (on screenshot 2), there are non-marked areas of the white header area with the date/time. If you click on the left corner, it will return you to the previous screen. If you click on the right corner, it will once again allow you to delete the video. If you click just to the right of the time then it will actually pull up the screen where you can save it to files and then you go to files to save it to video.

I know the reviews on the camera itself are mixed and this isn’t about the pros/cons of the video quality or anything like that. I had my reason why I wanted to go with the integrated dash cam but had issues with trying to fully use the app so I didn’t have to pull the SD card, etc… in the event I need an actual clip.

I hope this helps someone.

I've been able to successfully download videos to my phone several times. I think there's simply an option to "Add to downloads" or something like that, though I have an Android phone. Do you not see that option?

Once the video is in your downloads, it is on your phone (though, note, you need to wait until the download is totally finished). I am not an iPhone user, so I am not sure where it went. For me, when I download a video, it shows up in my Google Photos anyway.

Note, it does take quite a while using the Wi-Fi connection... I would recommend just removing the SD card and using a card reader on your PC/Mac of choice. I have not done so, yet, but downloading on my phone is quite slow.

On iPhone it’s a process. Downloading it will only allow you to view it through the Lexus app. In order to actually be able to view it outside of the app and therefore upload it to an insurance adjuster or whatever you need it for, you’ll need to re-download it again. I figured it out but the user interface is terrible. Surprisingly, the download didn’t take very long which I had heard was a complaint. It downloaded 183mb’s pretty quickly for me.

You can view it in the app without downloading it... I am not sure what's happened here, but maybe listing the steps you took could help?

So you can view all videos in the app. You can then download any video(s) to your phone that you obviously don’t want to be overwritten on the SD card. You will see the file download because you’ll watch the file size and download just like any other download. They will be in your download file in the app and you can then view the video — but again, only through the app. It doesn’t download to your files or photos app. So there isn’t any way to transfer/upload the video to someone else (e.g. Insurance or whoever else may need to see the video besides watching it with you on your phone).

Now you can obviously remove the SD card and pull it that way. My issue was trying to export it outside of the app. Holding down on the video itself with your finger didn’t pop up any options and all of the options on the main download screen only allowed you to select videos to delete. It was only after I realized that there are non-marked areas in the header that will actually pop up the normal option to save it to your files where you can access the video outside of the app.

Weird. It must be a different flow in the iPhone version of the app... once it's in my downloads, it's in the file system of my phone, in a folder named "LexusDashcam".

Yes. I think it is. I saw another place where someone mentioned that they didn’t have that issue with Android. You would think the functionality of the app would be the same but I guess it isn’t.

Hi there,
I was having the same issue with iphone. I tried and this is how I got it. You tap to watch the video on your iphone app. On the top of the screen you see date and white background bar. I tap once on the far right corner of the white background and it pops Iphone delete / cancel option. I tap just left of the far right corner of the white background bar and it pops Iphone screen where you can select to text, save etc.. This looks like invisible tap options which is really weird... Hope this works on your iphone.
