Even my own experience is leaning to BMW, I've only experienced ONE. I'm still skeptical about its reliability and German's. I'm still not comfortable if I keep one over warranty.

This sounds familiar. When did you say this the first time? Years ago? What year is his car? Shouldn't we be talking about current generations as the study is about?

I have owned 2007 FJ - 100K + miles no issues, two LC 200 series, 1 LC 100 series. All been great
Owned BMW x3 (lease), two x5s and currently have m550i (wife's) and my 2023 x7 40i which I just replaced the transmission under warranty with less than 13K miles. Dealer provided loaner and BMWNA issued reimbursement payment for the month of Feb. The BMW dealership / service experience is the best I have ever had.

I am currently in line for a Lexus GX550 and plan to trade in the x7 for it. I was not a fan of the Toyota dealership / service experience. Is the Lexus service experience much better than Toyota ?

Is the FJ automatic or manual transmission?

WOW

The manual FJ is a very unique and very special Toyota SUV. Manual transmission hooked up to a full time 4WD system with a limited slip centre differential (company to remain nameless) and it also has a locking rear diff. Full time spare tire on a matching alloy wheel. I am not sure if there has been anything ever like in the North American Toyota line up.

Good ole' Toyota BOF cult vehicles. I tore the LX up in so much snow having so much fun a month ago that brine or something got up into the belts, lol it squeaked really quietly for a day or two. Now, nothing. That's what I mean about simple engines. That noise would have concerned me in a ttV6. 5.7 V8? Not in the slightest.

Thats why he's hung onto it, hard to replace! He's had it since new.

I don’t really know pre 1990s Toyota SUVs that well. FJ and pre-80s series Land Cruisers were part time 4WD…I think there were some full time 4WD Land Cruisers, but I’m not really sure what years. 1990 to present was full but no manual transmission
