After going my whole life never buying more than 2 sets of tires in a given year, I now find myself having purchased 5 sets (20 tires) in just 5 months. 6 sets if you include the PS4S that came on my M3
The first set went on my father-in-law's car in April, unfortunately about a month before he passed. Last month, we replaced the Blizzak WS90s for the 335d that my son inherited from me, while Bridgestones were on special at Costco.
Then this past Wednesday, Costco switched their promotion from Bridgestone to Michelin, which tends to happen every few months. But they also eliminated the $19.98 per tire installation fee, without raising the base price of the tires. This has the net effect of making a set approximately $190 cheaper after tax than they were last week. So I just ordered all the ones we knew we needed between now and spring:
PS4S to replace the worn Pilot Super Sports on my son's 335d
PS AS4 to replace the Pirellis on my wife's Q7 (her summer set)
PS AS4 to serve as winter tires on my M3
Once those are installed, the only tires in the entire fleet that aren't brand new will be the Q7's Blizzak DM-V2s, which I think have two seasons left.
Other than Striker has anybody had to buy so many "normal" tires in such a short time? I assume some track rats would laugh at my lowly count of 24.

I think @ST430 probably has the record for number of tires (and rims) bought in a week
I used to like to keep spares for everything, including tires/parts, but I will not do that anymore. It often turns out that I sold the car before I got to use it, and the tire rubber is too old/dry when I want to swap them. I still have four sets of OEM/aftermarket rim/tires from my previous cars in the storage. They are summer/winter tires size from 17/18"/19". I only used them for 1~2 seasons and didn't bother to swap them between seasons. I bought them because they were great deals, and I ended up spending more than I needed.
I only have ever owned one vehicle at a time so I have not had to replace more than one set in a year. In reality I only buy one set every 3-4 years on average. I've got 2 years and less than 20k miles on the BFG KO2's on my truck right now.
I always put the new ones the front because I can feel a better ride.
If "less is more" then you need fewer tires. Lol
The rear is where your car derives it's stability from, it's safer to lose grip in the front first since you will just plow and your "reflex" reaction of brakes and off throttle will generally be an acceptable reaction. If the rear steps out it's much faster and dramatic so that's why they say to put new on the rear
Buy cars with staggered set ups, then you won't have that problem. Lol. I love PS AS4. They look great (yeah I choose tires for the look too. lol), drive great and last long.

You aren't wrong. The staggered PSS on my E90 went through 2.5 sets of rears for every set of fronts. I could have squeezed one or perhaps even two more seasons out of the current fronts, but given that I'm switching to PS4S I didn't want the mismatch, and that would mean losing the $100 discount, so it wouldn't actually save all that much either.
I'm assuming the F:R ratio will be at least as bad on the M3, if not worse.
