tesla also lost a fortune in the early years until they figured out how to make economically at huge scale.
ford is retooling a plant for much larger volume and assumed lower build cost.
Tesla didn’t have pension funds to support and a whole line of ICE cars to build/sell.
I just don’t think that most ppl that want to show they have an EV want to get one from Ford, BMW etc. unfortunately most ppl just go with latest cool trend which currently is Tesla and will probably be the case for next 5yrs.
Let Tesla sell EVs, Let Ford sell Broncos, Mustangs and F150s.
Every company has its own niche.
I totally agree with you @RNM GS3 . Market should decide. Californians are pretty much deciding. I don't have the exact numbers but the three top selling cars by rank are:
1) Tesla Model Y
2) Tesla Model 3
3) Toyota RAV4
For the RAV4, I don't know the breakdown between Hybrid and non-hybrids, but my guess is these are mostly hybrids because of the higher cost of gas here, and better power/performance from the hybrid drivetrain.
Will this trend reverse? I have no idea. If it does, than I'm fine with it, as long as I don't have to go back to a 4 cylinder. No freaking way
California is also most likely the largest market for enthusiast cars, so easily I wouldn't be surprised if CA has a higher number of V8 performance cars than other states.

It's true that we have a lot of Mustang and Charger/Challenger owners, but they are way out numbered by Modded Civic, WRX/STI and 86/BRZ owners. At least that's my observation. But yes, that's probably true with the large number of cars and enthusiasts in the state

I totally agree. Market should decide. Americans (U.S.) are pretty much deciding. The top three selling vehicles by rank are:
They’ve (we’ve) decided they don’t want rid of them which is being forced on us, there’s a difference. You had to have a V8 S Class….
For one, all those pickup sales aren't V8s, and two thats just one segment of vehicle.
I love V8s, I'm not saying I don't but I understand why carmakers are phasing them out. W223 generation S Class BTW the I6 outsells the V8, thats a change from the W222.
The V8 lives on in trucks and very few V8 in cars. Glad that Mercedes is bringing the V8 back to the C and E AMG models.
California is the biggest market in the US, almost bigger than the other two biggest markets Florida and Texas combined. Where it goes, every automaker will follow. Btw, only about one quarter of those trucks you mentioned are sold with V8 engines. Most sold are with either a 4 cylinder, TT V6, or hybrid. That said, I'm rooting for V8'S to live on

i believe once you switch to an EV you won't miss the v8 at all.
the v8 AND exhaust setup in my lc500 gives a visceral thrill, but in a car like an s-class, it's there for smoothness, refinement, and easy power, but an EV does all those things better.

I have seen probably 20 S580s today on my commute and zero of the EQ cars.
Actually in the first half of 2023 they only sold about 800 more S Classes than EQS. I see several EQ cars a week here. You live in NYC where the S Class is very popular as a livery car.
Personally to me the issue is they are ugly and they aren’t very nice inside. If they made an EV S Class I wouldn’t even consider the gas one I don’t think. On Bimmerpost almost all the 7 Series owners have i7 s.
