He reviewed his Plaid last year, but regardless I don't see that as a negative as well. He has the perfect setup now as you mentioned

oh he definitely buys cars for content, as well as 'image'. also allows him to write them off i'm sure.Originally Posted by Blaze876

Him selling his plaid isn't a negative though. He has a Rivian and wanted a sports car. Imo a garage with a Porsche sports car and a utility EV (Rivian, cybertruck, lightning) seems almost perfect.
agreed... mine's not quite as 'high end' (lc500/ioniq5) but works for me right now. Him selling his plaid isn't a negative though. He has a Rivian and wanted a sports car. Imo a garage with a Porsche sports car and a utility EV (Rivian, cybertruck, lightning) seems almost perfect.

I believe he buys for content, and his channel probably pays for his cars. I would do exactly as he does if I was in his placeOriginally Posted by Blaze876

Which I am saying is incorrect. He doesn't buy vehicles to create content. Him creating less than 5 videos for vehicles he bought is not him buying it to create content. Originally Posted by AMIRZA786

He has a Rivian for over a year now and has 2 or 3 videos on it.
YouTubers that actually buy a vehicle to create content has a video on that vehicle what seems like every week.
I'm sure his channel pays for the cars because he likely purchased them for "business use".

If he is buying vehicles for content he is doing a very good job lol. Making 2 to 3 videos on a vehicle you bought for content makes zero financial sense.Originally Posted by bitkahuna

I mean a lc500 and ioniq5 sounds close enough to me haha. I would swap the ioniq5 for something with more utility though.

Marques Brownlee is all about image, he's worth $45 million that's how he built up his wealth. Image. I don't trust his opinion on anything because everything he does is image, not facts.

I think he's a pretty decent reviewer, and I enjoy his videos, but I wouldn't buy a car based on his recommendation Originally Posted by LeX2K

He loved his Tesla. He had a model S before the plaid. Always seem honest and doesn't seem to take much sponsored deals.

i think you're splitting hairs... all things can be true... he buys it for image, for usage, and for reviews. as for those other youtubers, they don't do anywhere near as many videos as mkbhd - he's reviewing ces announcements, computers, gadgets, watches, he's interviewing people, only so many car reviews he can do, including ones on his own. a guy like gjeebs for example, he built his channel with reviews of his own tesla... good for him, different focus/audience/subscribers!Originally Posted by Blaze876

wow, cynical, but you're entitled to your opinion of course. i don't consider him a car expert, but he's obviously a car enthusiast. i think he's built his channel based ENTIRELY on authenticity... he believes what he says. he's also careful about not just 'bomb throwing' like so many youtubers, which is why he's trusted by millions. i think he's great! he also explains complex things in a way 'normal' people can relate to, a huge skill.Originally Posted by LeX2K

Yep, and the crazy thing is the "miss" is marginal, is only a miss against "analyst expectations", and the results themselves were objectively solid - but this being Tesla, the sky is falling.....Originally Posted by Allen K
