Tesla Business and News Thread
I'm not surprised. Most people understand it's highly hypocritical to short a stock in a company that is reducing carbon output and at the same time saying CO2 is the greatest threat facing humanity.
You said it yourself, investing with emotion is a big mistake. Smart investors invest to make money. Admonishing people for investing in or shorting or not investing in Tesla because you are so in love with Musk and the company is exactly that, investing with emotion.
Shorting Tesla, a company that is often considered overvalued is a legitimate but risky investment move.

Just speaking for myself, I invest to make money, as much as I believe in Tesla, if they didn't make me money, I wouldn't invest in them. I'm probably going to take some heat for this, but if shorting TSLA made me money, I would be shorting it. I do make some exceptions as I mentioned earlier, there are companies I wouldn't take a penny from on moral grounds.
As far as those that continue to short TSLA, I don't know what their reasons are (and I don't really care), I don't hold anything against them. I do laugh at them because of the continued losses they take time after time, but other than that, I don't give them a further thought.
I don't hate Bill Gates at all, I built my career on supporting Microsoft Software, I have several certs from Microsoft (MCSE Win NT, MCSE Win 2000, MCSE Win 2012 and MCP or Microsoft Certified Professional) and I still support MS systems to this day

Now if somebody is supporting a company or a cause they believe in to help that company achieve what they are trying to achieve without an expectation of financial gain, thats different...thats a donation not an investment. Lex is expecting Gates to behave like he's doing that and thats not what he's doing...its just investing. Tesla doesn't need donors.

I totally disagree. My investment choices and my personal opinions about the goals of a company are separate.

I believe Musk takes this type of situation with Gates very personally because he sees the hypocrisy in it and it bothers him. I'm not trying to suggest how anyone here should view this, I'm just explaining where I think the prior post is originating from. Some people can separate the 2 things (making money and some level of ethics/morals about what you believe being in contradiction) and other's can't. It seems clear that Musk is very bothered by someone who wants to reduce the carbon footprint on earth but will bet against a company leading the charge in the EV sector.
I think it has a chance to go to $500 + depending how much support it gets from new Admin policies.

I agree, it's at least going to hit $400, that's what I think now that it has broke through the $300 ceiling
