Default Will's Black GS400 - Going all out now

Hi guys,

So my silver GS is totaled, I'm super sad about it but also happy I was able to pick up a completely stock Onyx Black 1999 GS400 for only $1500. 191k miles, mint interior but some rough areas on the exterior. Drives wonderful. More on that later in the thread when the time comes. I've always wanted a black GS since the first Fast & Furious when Johnny Tran's boys pulled up inside the garage. It was gangster back then and I think it still is now.

For my silver GS, it was a daily driver, clean build with Blitz parts and it was fine. However, for this black one, I'm foregoing the clean, daily look and will take this in another direction. I'm still hording parts but will update this thread as I go along.

For now, here are some pictures of my completely stock GS400.

Lies lol

Some driver side fender rust

Clear coat peeling on the side mirrors

And the big one, botched up job to cover up rust forming after not repairing a scrape

Rest of the body isn't too bad, definitely needs paint correction and polishing

Non working OEM nav

As far as immediate plans, I'm stripping my silver GS of the Supra LSD, Precision Industries high stall TC, SRT Intake and Race ECU, PPE headers and LS400 BBK. Those will go into this car soon.

And of course, in Fast & Furious tradition, overnight parts from Japan....that cost more than the car...

More to come soon..

Nice to see a positive out of your situation.. That is one clean GS IMO besides the few blemishes.. Looking forward to your build.

Overnight parts from Japan arrived, unveiling soon once the shop is done with them.

Also, found a rear door trim piece to replace the scratched up panel on the rear passenger side door. If only replacing the rear quarter panel would be this easy

Whoa just got caught up on all this. Glad you're okay and that you've got another GS. Also stoked you were able to strip the silver GS of those parts. Looking forward to the direction you take this build! Subscribed for sure.

I figure before I do any modifications, I should get a stock dyno number. That'll let me know how effective my mods will be. This car is bone stock and has done 191k miles.

Wow that's over the factory rated values after all those miles. Those are impressive engines

Will, Can you post a pic of your exhaust setup for the new GS when the time comes. I'd like to see the x-pipe into single outlets all the way back to the rear bumper. I'm sure you're probably doing this for the new setup right? Someone posted a pic in one of the FB groups and its looks nice and clean but no video to hear the setup.

Thanks buddy...

Yeah, I was expecting in the low 200's. I have the intake and the PPE headers and Magnaflow high flow cats I'll be putting in soon, and then have it tuned with an Apex'i Neo by the same shop, on the same dyno. A synthetic oil change and new Denso spark plugs will be going in as well. I'd like to see what the difference will be after the tune. After all the searching I've done, I don't think anyone has done a before and after on the GS400 with an Apex'i Neo.

I think the only changes to the exhaust will be PPE headers and high flow cats. If a cat back pops up in the for sale section, I might grab it but if having the stock cat back means I don't lose low end torque, I'm OK with that.

Nice baseline numbers! Will be great to see the before and after like you're saying with a little tuning.

One of the big changes to this car will be the introduction of air suspension. I've been impressed with Air Lift Performance's lineup and after doing some research (and Black Friday), I bit the bullet and went with the Air Lift 3P system with dual Viair chrome compressors and a polished 5 gallon tank. This is a mock up of everything before I nail it down. The tank is 36" wide, too wide to fit on the rear shelf so I'll build a pedestal for it to clear the sides. The compressors will sit up front and the black bracket in the middle house the Air Lift manifold. The benefits of having dual compressors range from having a backup in case one of them dies so I don't get stranded, less overall run time to fill the tank and in turn, less noisy time. It also looks cool

I also purchased a set of air struts from Air Lift with Serial Nine camber plates that allow for +/- 3 degrees. With my wheel and tire setup in mind, being able to adjust the camber will come in very handy. Wheels should be here by the end of the year.

That install look super neat, you did good job with it. This looks like it will be an epic build.
