Default Simple Green

Has anyone ever used Simple Green on their wheels? I'm just talking about the Regular stuff.

I never uses it on wheels and i myself probably wont use it... unless someone replies to your thread mentioning it works wonders and doesnt affect the wheels. but theres plenty of other cleaning agents out there, why not try something made for wheels?

It's just easily accessible lol. I have friends that use it and say it works awesome, I just don't want to ruin the chrome finish on the wheels.

I will admit that it does an awesome job at cleaning... I use it on the engine bay of cars right before I sell them and it cleans off almost all the dirt and grime and buildup thats in there

I use it on my rims every weekend. No problems so far and it removes the brake dust with a little scrubbing.

I used it on my IS350, A4, and now the F. It cuts through the brake dust super easily. I always completely rinse it off after a quick scrub with a wheel brush.

I usually use Simple Green for my wheel wells and engine. I try not to get it on my wheels. That's what wheel cleaner is for. gl

I use it on wheels and tires, but cut it at least 50% with water.

Biggest trick to keeping wheels clean is to apply a synthetic sealant or wheel wax to them. I have the 7-spoke chrome wheels on my GS430, and it rarely has any brake dust buildup due to the fact I keep the wheels treated. Cleanup for me is just soap and water with a soft sponge that I use only on the wheels.

While working for NASA / NAVAiR Simple Green was withdrawn from use due to aluminum embrillement (cracking)

Simple Green is corrosive and will react with bare aluminium causing hydrogen embrittlement (this is also known as stress cracking corrosion). As the cleaner gradually ferments it reduces the pH from its normal mildly alkaline state to acidic. Slow corrosion of the aluminium results, generating a little hydrogen on the surface.

Anaerobic conditions also generate hydrogen and hydrogen sulphide bio chemically, producing small amounts of methane. The aluminium probably has sufficient residual stress to be susceptible to hydrogen stress cracking, and this can be accelerated by the sulphide.
