Post Should I Remove the Limo Tint?

After 9 years of having 5% tint on my cars, I finally got caught today. $49 fine (not too bad). The officer says I dont need to have an affidavit for compliance meaning I can leave the tint on if I choose. BUT, he says if I don't remove it and get caught again...they can bust me to the tune of $49 PER WINDOW. Ouch.

So what do you guys think? Take my chances or settle for the 28% legal tint?

For those of you who are interested, the light meter that he used was about the size of a video cassette tape. He had me roll up the window only a few inches, then slid the meter on the window so that it touched both sides. Sure enough...the LCD display said 0.5. Damn. I neglected to ask him if every cop carried that piece of equipment, but he somehow implied that he was specifically assigned to scout out limo tint. I can just see myself getting pulled over again by this same officer in a month or two.

Perhaps keep the tint and drive with your windows down.

Go for legal tint unless you want to get caught again and pay the 49 per window!

Go legal! My RX330 is all legal. Back in the day I loved dark tints. Never got caught, but that was when I had an '89 Isuzu truck (high school) and I probably didn't want anyone to see me driving that thing!?! (double 5%'s and a 20%, believe it or not) No wait, scratch that, my '97 Prelude SH, nice car at the time, had 5% tints; it just looked sharp. My '01 IS300 went legal, 35% in HI. And my new baby has legals. Just one less thing I need to worry about when driving...

Definitely agree. I am also going to switch to legal tint (which means no tint on front windows in Illinois ).

Caring for illegal tint is just too much of a hassle (I keep my sunroof shade open to allow as much light in to the car and at night turn on my dimmed domelight to brighten the interior in police-plagued areas), especially if you are headed to somewhere important.

I love my limo tint and have no plans on getting it removed anytime soon. This may be becasue of my youth, but I notice I love it the most at night on the back highways, sunroof cover closed, dash lights almost all the way down with some chill music on. I feel so isolated from the outside world and I love it. Its great in the summer too because it does actually help with the problem of the sun. I haven't been caught yet though so that may be another reason for me being for the limo tints.

One less thing to worry about if the tint is legal.

Once they start, they'll may look the car over for other equipment issues.
