Is there any possible way to remove the pre-existing coat and start from scratch?

its a plastic emblem, if you wanna strip the chrome off it (which you WOULDNT want to do if you want to overlay with the RC Car paint) then you can just sand it down for some nice grey/black plastic.

I meant if I painted it too dark and want it lighter. How do I remove the Tamiya paint and start from scratch again.

sandpaper? or MAYBE a very very light application of paint thinner that's immediately neutralized.

My friend and I recently redid the emblems on my SC. They were really bubbly, so he just pulled it off and sprayed some brake cleaner on it, then sanded off the paint. The paint was easily stripped off.

Sandpaper alone should do the trick too.

pretty sure sanding would get rid of the chrome finish.

the V8 badges on the side of the car are in perfect shape, the front badge i did didnt hold up as well, after about a year and a half it was pretty chipped up, so i would recommend some HIGH QUALITY clear coat to hold up to the beating

do REALLY light coats, you probably put too thick a coat on.

Bump...because I vote for this to be a sticky! =)

I ordered the Tamiya paint on Monday...came in yesterday and I did a test spray on my winter wheel center cap. Wow...results were perfect.

Thanks PureDrifter for creating this thread. I plan on painting my front "L" emblem to match my rear OEM BP. I will post pics when I'm finished.

For the question of how long it lasts? I did the same thing last July 08 on a chrome license plate (metal) frame for the rear and chrome license fastners (plastic) w/decorative caps. I didn't clear coat them. They still look as good as when I did them. I did this to match the SC black pearl emblems and the matching license plate frame was just too expensive. You can apply as many coats as you want to try and match the emblems.
I also cleaned the parts with rubbing alcohol to take off any dirt, oil & finger prints before painting. I also put them on a cardboard box to hold them as I sprayed and to carry outside to dry in the sun.
