Can I use engine degreaser and water hose?
Yeap!!! I use "Power Clean" from Auto Zone or use similar product from Discount, Advance, or Pepboys... There's NOTHING stonger that can compare. IMO.

*Spray on engine/hood lining, in wheel well on susp. components, inner fender lining, engine dust cover, etc...
(COLD or WARM engine, not HOT!!!) I never hose directly into the Alt. or electic components,. Use good judgement on these...

*Wait about 30 - 60 seconds...

*Rinse off with a strong/high pressure stream of water...

*Start engine to dry components

*Dress engine, hoses, battery, radiator, etc with engine dressing... I have a lil' secret, I use clear tire dressing on my engine... spray lightly/evenly and let it set about 10 min. and wipe away excessive dressing... The best BANG for the BUCK! That's an old/cheap detailer's trick. Also, lightly/mist spray the inner wheel well with tire dressing... [after you wash your ride.] to give it a deep black look too.

*Bling, you're done in 20 minutes tops!

don't spray the V8 - the water will fill up the rear spark plug holes and the engine will miss fire. Then you have to take the plugs out and dry etc.

Question Has any one else experience this problem???

I've been DOING IT (cleaning my engine) for years with my SC4 and also every car we ever owned. I owned an auto detailing business in Starkville, MS for a couple of years and have never had a problem. Maybe I've been lucky?

Just don't drown the engine! Use good judgement. I wash my engine at least 2 times a month.

My 93 White did not had any problem, maybe because the engine was clean to begin with. I have washed it about 3 times already.

Just bought another 93 SC400 Green with 142K mi., the engine was dirty, the owner never wash the engine. I guess I drown the engine when I tried to wash all the years of grease and dirt. Engine ran fine right after the wash, didn't drive it until two days later. Wife report drove to work fine, the car did idle right from lunch time on. Now with what UZZ32 said, I may have water in the spark plugs
