Lexus Hits the High Seas with the LY 650
Late 2019 will mark the arrival of the first-ever Lexus production yacht, the LY 650. Described as “65’ of opulence on water,” the LY 650 is built in a partnership with Marquis-Larson Boat Group of Pulaski, Wisconsin. Power for the luxury yacht comes from an 1,880-horsepower Volvo IPS boat engine, and up to six people can enjoy the three staterooms this new Lexus will have to offer.
2020 RC F Track Edition Debuts on 30th Anniversary of Lexus Detroit Auto Show Debut
Thirty years ago, Toyota delivered the Lexus brand to the world at the Detroit Auto Show. In 2019, Lexus will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a bang at the Detroit Auto Show. Specifically, the 2019 edition (the last to be held in January) will be graced by the presence of the 2020 RC F Track Edition, a car expected to be more powerful than the LF A, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Townsend Bell Returns to Full-time Racing in 2019 with AIM Vasser Sullivan
Endurance racing legend Townsend Bell spent the past three years racing part-time. Come January 2019, though, Bell will join up with co-driver Frankie Montecalvo for the full 2019 WeatherTech Championship season behind the wheel of the No. 12 AIM Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3. Together, the team will compete in the series’ GT Daytona class, with their first test set for late January at the 57th running of the 24 Hours of Daytona.
Lexus UX May Go Full-Electric
The UX just arrived, and already, there are signs Lexus may jump into the EV pool through the new crossover. Per AutoGuide, Lexus filed a trademark with the European Intellectual Property Office for the UX300e name. As the lowercase ‘h’ means hybrid, like the upcoming UX250h, the ‘e’ could mean a battery-electric version is on the way. Should that be the case, the all-electric UX could make its debut either in March at the Geneva Motor Show, or in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Lexus Design Award Initiative Prototypes Revealed at 2019 Salone del Mobile
By January 2019, the six finalists of Lexus’s 2019 Design Award Initiative competition will be revealed. Each one will receive $25,000 to build functioning prototypes based on the year’s theme, “Design for a Better Tomorrow.” With each finalist assigned a mentor, the prototypes will be created during the 2019 Salone del Mobile in Milan, Italy, set for April 9 through 14.
Japanese Car Cruise-In at the Petersen Automotive Museum
For three years, the crew at Super Street Magazine have teamed up with the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles to give Japanese car fans a chance to demonstrate their love with the Japanese Car Cruise-In and Super Street Tech Day. Over 1,000 vehicles attended the 2017 edition, prompting a smaller gathering in 2018. If you love Lexus, you’ll likely find a few custom SCs, ESs, and maybe even an LF A there.
