Lexus RX: Best Selling Luxury Vehicle of Any Kind Through Q3 2025
The Lexus RX isn’t just the best-selling vehicle in its segment, it has also outsold every other luxury vehicle through three quarters of 2025.
There was a time, not too terribly long ago, when sedans ruled the luxury vehicle world. Younger folks just snagging their first real job in the business world would purchase or lease a compact sedan, eventually trading up to a mid-sizer before – hopefully – reaching the pinnacle of their careers, at which point they could afford a range-topping full-size sedan full of impressive luxuries. Things have changed a lot in recent years, with crossovers and SUVs taking over, and the sales success of the Lexus RX is a surefire indicator of that dramatic shift.
As Club Lexus previously reported, the Lexus RX was that brand’s best-selling model yet again in Q3 2025, as Lexus moved 80,427 units through the first three quarters of the year – a 3.5 percent year-over-year decrease. That result didn’t come as a huge surprise given the fact that the RX has remained Lexus’ most popular vehicle for quite a long time now, carving out a niche in the mid-size luxury crossover space in the many years it’s been on sale. However, the Lexus RX has become much bigger than just another competitor in that specific segment.
Rather, through the first three quarters of this year, the Lexus RX ranks first in luxury vehicle sales in the U.S., regardless of segment, according to USA Today. That’s good enough to beat out the best-of-the-best in that regard, with the BMW X5 racking up 51,870 sales through Q3 – a bit higher than the X3 at 50,009 sales. Notably, the Lexus RX is also beating out the Mercedes-Benz GLE and GLC, Audi Q5, and Cadillac Escalade, too.
As for why the Lexus RX has proven to be such a smash hit with luxury vehicle shoppers, well, we must first consider the fact that it competes in the most popular class of those types of vehicles these days, but there’s more to the story than that. The RX is also a pretty new product, as the current, fifth-generation model just debuted for the 2023 model year. It’s also a well-established and well-known entity, having been around since the 1999 model year as one of the very first luxury SUVs to exist.
The RX is also pretty affordable compared to its direct rivals, and it offers a solid amount of standard features that many others don’t. Throw in the fact that Lexus, in general, has a stellar reputation for reliability, and it’s pretty easy to see why the RX continues to dominate its segment – not to mention the luxury vehicle market, in general.
