Lexus Peeks 700 Years into the Future with SkyJet
Single-seat Lexus spacecraft stars in upcoming sci-fi flick. Brand hints that this may actually be what its cars will look like in 2740. And we like it.
Lexus has always created striking, progressive designs that stand out on the road. That’s why the automaker scored a major role in the upcoming sci-fi movie Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, which is set to be released on July 21. The futuristic teen drama features the Lexus-inspired SkyJet as the characters’ main mode of transportation.
The automaker released two regional U.S. TV spots featuring the Lexus SkyJet, which was created in a partnership between Lexus and EuropaCorp, a French movie company located near Paris. “Valerian,” the main character in the movie (played by Dane DeHaan) pilots the machine.
Clearly, the SkyJet is an exercise for Lexus to show the world what it expects transportation machines to look like in 2740. And yes, the automaker’s iconic spindle grille exists in the future.
The trailer for Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets offers a sneak-peek at the SkyJet carving through the intergalactic citadel of Alpha. Lexus also put out a video to take fans behind the scenes of how the companies created the machine. Check out that clip below.
‘Helping design and build the SkyJet allowed us to imagine mobility 700 years in the future and showcase some amazing Lexus ideas.’
“Helping design and build the SkyJet allowed us to imagine mobility 700 years in the future and showcase some amazing Lexus ideas,” says Spiros Fotinos, global head of marketing at Lexus International. “This new content adds to the excitement surrounding the film’s debut, and we’re pleased to be part of this incredible and ambitious project.”
For Lexus fans in New York, a 30-second spot has started airing on local cable television channels. Ads are also being featured on a digital billboard in Times Square.
The Lexus-inspired SkyJet certainly looks cool. Do you think machines will actually look like this in the future? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
