2014 Lexus CT 200h Hits the Million Mile Mark, Maxes Out Odometer
The owner of this 2014 Lexus CT 200h does long-term deliveries for a living, and recently hit a major milestone with little trouble.
The Lexus CT debuted back in 2011 as a thrifty, fuel-sipping hybrid hatchback, a time when such a thing was favored by the American public. However, the CT only hung around for a few years as fuel prices came down and folks gravitated back toward larger, less efficient vehicles, and today, it’s mostly just a footnote in Lexus history – largely due to the fact that it was the first to sport the contentious spindle grille. However, there is something else the Lexus CT 200h shares in common with its peers – it’s extremely reliable.
The owner of this 2014 Lexus CT 200h – Nader Assaad – has proven that without a doubt after surpassing the million mile mark in their hatch recently, a figure he achieved after buying the car new a little over a decade ago. The long distance delivery driver posted about his feat in the Mileage Impossible Facebook page recently, noting that he drives anywhere from 300-500 miles on a daily basis.
As one might imagine, Assaad managed to rack up this sort of extreme mileage thanks to a rigid maintenance schedule. His Lexus CT 200h is treated to tire rotations every 5-10k miles, oil changes every 20k (though he relies lab reports to ensure oil life remains sufficient over that time period), air filters every 50k, transmission/coolant changes every 50k, spark plugs every 120k, and a new set of tires essentially every year.
Assaad has had to replace some parts along the way, with that list consisting of two head gaskets, a water pump, thermostat, both horns, the driver’s side front wheel bearing, the front brake pads and rotors (three times), the oil filter housing, front and rear shocks, brake booster and master cylinder, passenger side front wheel bearing, valve lifters, rear brakes, ignition coils, EGR valve, all four TPMS sensors, the fan motor assembly, MAF sensor, a few wheel studs, and the 12-volt battery twice.
The big question most will undoubtedly have about this million-mile Lexus CT 200h, however, is how well has its hybrid battery held up? Turns out, pretty darn good, as Assaad has only had to replace it once over the course of ownership. Interestingly, this happened while the car was sitting in the shop waiting for its second head gasket replacement, as it was parked there for several weeks without being started up. The hybrid battery drained to the point where the car wouldn’t start, and special factory methods wouldn’t work, either. Otherwise, this CT remains in remarkable condition given the hard life it has led – other than extensive seat bolster wear, it looks like it could easily have 100k miles on the clock, not a million.
Unfortunately, reaching his million mile milestone was a bit melodramatic given the fact that the odometer refused to roll past the 999,999 mark – something we’ve seen before. However, after reaching out to Lexus, Assaad will indeed be getting a new cluster that his local shop believes can be programmed to display mileage surpassing that magical million mile mark – which is a good thing, because we have a feeling that he won’t be trading this CT in anytime soon.
