Got a chance to rent a Lightning for a week. This seems to the the short range XLT model. In a nutshell, vs. My old Silverado EV RST, it is very lacking, but i can see why many would choose it as it feels **too** much like a regular f150.
TL;DR F150 Lightning feels like every other F150, but electrified
Good : Familiar F150 bones throughout, so wide range of accessories and can be added; good power as well
Bad : Rough ride, short range, and standard large truck turning radius
Ugly : Ford Blue Cruise is not very intelligent and requires you to hold the steering wheel
All in all, I was not very impressed with the Lightning. I thought it would be more comfortable if a ride with the rear IRS, but back shakes a lot like a regular leaf spring truck. I had the short range version (I think), and I had a bit of range anxiety always looking down to see battery %. Lastly, the Blue Cruise wasn't very impressive at all as it drifted all over the lane and required me to hold onto the steering wheel. Power was ev good though as I was able to readily get up to high speeds easily.
That truck doesn't have BlueCruise... You can easily tell as it doesn't have the driver attention monitor cameras required for BlueCruise, which is absolutely full hands free.
As an aside, I could not disagree more! I do have a much higher trim level than the one you rented, but regardless I'd still take the Lightning every time over the Silverado EV which for a ground-up EV isn't any more efficient. The extra range on the GM is solely due to the bigger and heavier battery it has to carry around, which is why it's also slower than the Ford. We find the ride on ours to be great, better than our prior Ford/GM trucks. We get the EPA 300 mile range out of ours, and it has the two added benefits of costing us nothing to charge and less then $300 per 6 months to insure.
Thanks for the heads up on Blue Cruise....that explains a lot.
As for the batteries, I love the fact the SeV has nearly double the capacity of other trucks....no range anxiety and I can actually tow with it without a worry. And to be fair, my RST had air suspension, so it is not a direct comparison against this model I rented, though I don't think lightning has air suspension as an option?
