noise coming from front brakes
i just recently changed my font brake pads and also resurfaced the rotors as well, but i'm still getting a squeaking sound when i slow down. i checked where the noise is coming from and its from the front brakes. i used the new shims that came with the pads but i reused the metal plates with the clips on the edges from the old pads. did i miss something? please help if you know whats going on. the sound is kinda embarrasing specially when im in traffic! thanks!

^^ check the metal clips as well. sometimes when they become old the adhesive on the back of them come loose and if they are bent/damaged from age it can rub against the rotor and mess up your resurfacing.
if someone can chime in i also believe the clips need to be in a specific place? i noticed when i got my front fit kit back then 4 clips were bigger than the other 4 but i honestly dont remember which ones go on top and which on the bottom. not sure if it makes any difference that might cause it to rub on the rotor?
i remember a few yrs back when i first got the gs it was VERY difficult for me to remove one side of my pads for some reason and it turned out to be one of the clips. i think the old owner did the same by reusing them but he damaged one and bent the part towards the pad to secure it in place. doing that prevented the pad from even touching the rotor on one side causing a uneven brake wear and a hard shimmy every time i hit the brake.

Oh....did u buy Lexus/Toyota OEM pads? Or another brand name pads? I don't like to use shims from other brands...and re-use the original shims from Lexus/Toyota....just clean them up good...and add lots of anti-squeal paste.

Unfortunately, I bought non-oem pads from the parts store. I got this diagram fron the reapir manual in the DIY section:

I re-used everything except the inner anti-squeal shim. I used the one that came with the new pads. Also, i had this squeaking sound before i changed the pads. they were almost worn out so i just replaced them. I'll check the assembly again today. Where do i place the anti-squeal lube? between the anti squeal shim and the inner shim? Thanks Pete!

Les,
I bought my anti-squeal paste/lube from Checkers/O'Reillys....and another time, I bought from Napa.
Apply on the backside of the pad....between the pad and the inner shim.....and also between the inner shim and outer shim....and be generous.

Unfortunately, crappy pads squeak. Factory pads are good, there are plenty of choices for new, non squeaking pads on the market. I use the Adaptive One pads from Napa on tons of cars, they absolutely never squeak!
The lube is just grease, I use the same ceramic lube that I use on pretty much everything on the brakes, its a funky purple stuff but its amazing.
