Hey guys, I have a grinding noise coming from what I believe are the front brakes. It happens when I apply the brakes and sounds like the brake pad is worn out and there's metal-on-metal contact but when I checked the pads, they are at 80-90% (rears have about the same amount left). I hear it the loudest just before coming to a full stop, from about 20 mph down to stop. I thought it was caused by rust on the brakes but after I wore off the rust, the sound is still there.
Any ideas whats causing the noise? It doesn't make the noise when I make a turn, which I think some members here have and I believe is a separate issue.
I had the same issue with the front brakes. The GS's are known for an almost metal on metal noise from the front brakes eventually. I then got new rotors and pads replaced at a Lexus dealer. The service technician showed me where the noise was coming from looking at the rotor. It's the contact near the edge of the worn rotor that's making the noise. I asked to get the rotors serviced which would solve the problem, but they claimed their machine was not capable of going to the edge like that and the rotor was too thin. I didn't buy it, but I got a good deal with the brake job, so I went ahead.
I believe there was a TSB on this brake issue if your car is under warranty.
Umm......... his rotors are perfectly fine, the holes on the hub is how they come stock from the dealership. Looking at the rotor surface where the pad meets, you can see some use on it. Best would be get new aftermarket pads and cut the rotors.
you are looking at about 500 for new brake rotors and pads with labor at lexus if worst comes to worst
rotors are about 115 each as i just sold a customer that service 30 mins ago. hope u get it all figured out!
Really GS350Lexus? Now I have to go downstairs n look. I don't recall any uneven pits like that in the rotor's hub.... It seriously looks scary!
Older version of the GS350 rotors were closed in that specific area, but the new set of rotors that all GS350 come with and sold at dealership are like that. My car is currently in service, Once I get it back I will post up a pic of the rotors. I even remember EBC rotors came just like that also.
