Default How to change wheel bearing

I tried looking for a how to guide, but couldn't find one on changing the wheel bearing. I need to change my front right bearing and have never done this before, so any info would be greatly appreciated.

Do you at least have a hydraulic press?

If he had a press he probably wouldn't be looking for a write up on this.

Best bet would be to
1. Take the knuckle off your car
2. Take it to your local machine shop
3. wait an hour while they do their part
4. Go home and re-install the knuckle.

Not bad for ghetto-write up eh?

it depends..some people have the equipment, but not the skill. bunch of people have sockets and torque wrench, we can't assume they know how to tear apart a suspension

I did both fronts a couple of weeks ago, it was not that bad of a job if you know how to use a press.. I agree, the best idea is to remove the knuckle from your car and let the professionals do the pressing.

Hence my next post in this forum!!

Something like that should work? Kragen has tools you can rent. Don't need a press.

This is what I used.

you can rent them from kragen.

just a little spray of lubricant will make it come out easy... clean out the mess when putting new parts in. You don't want the bearing lubricant to mix with any other oil as it will change viscosity or deteriorate with chemical reations.

The obvious part...don't forget to remove the ring that locks the bearing into place.

that thing you have pictured with the disks in that red case is called a Race installer kit. Thats not what we're doing here as we're dealing with a sealed bearing. That might be a good tool to help install some wheel bearings into a drum or something similar.

I can't get on ebay from my job so i don't know what that link is for. And those other two pics don't show up either. My job blocks random *****. Sorry.

I actually used that item pictured above to remove my wheel bearing. The ebay link is the same stuff. You can use it to remove and install bearings. I'm referring to the 2nd pic..which is ebay stuff.
