Default My Brakes Suck

My brakes have been making a terrible crack noise when I come to a stop on a uphill or downhill. It only does it once, when I first initially press the brake. The sound is horrible. I took it to the dealer and they told me its the brake pads getting wore, and I should change them soon. Well, I am not paying the dealer to change my brakes. So, what brake pads are you guys using? What about rotors?

I'm still on OEM rotor, but I'm using Akebono brake pads. Very little dusting and the price is reasonable ($60-70). They brake the same, if not better than OEM pad. But if you're looking for that strong bite, you might want to consider some Axxis Ultimates or anything similar. But they will be harsher on your rotors.

I dont do any world class braking, so I just got myself some nice decent pads.

That is all I need. I don't need a huge brake setup, this car is not for speed. Did you have the same cracking noise? Is this common?

I would do as the dealer says and replace the pads first. Then, if you still have the problem, move to the next least expensive replacement. At best, you fix the problem quickly for cheap, at worst you find out what it isn't and have a bunch replacement parts installed.
