New rotor or resurface existing one?
I put new Akebono ceramic pad along with OEM style Brembo rotor on my 99GS400 four years ago(at 88K miles).
I still experience the vibration after the new rotor back then. Can the new brembo rotor I got from tirerack are wraped. I neve bother to get them cut to find out whether or not it was the issue.
Now, the car has 131K miles on them and the Akebono pad is pretty much gone. I can hear the high pitch noise from the pin on the pad scraping against the rotor.
The questions, should I resurface the existing rotor if it is still within spec. The new sold in local autozone cost around $27/each with two year warranty. or try Brembo again from tirerack for $46/each.
what is your take on this?
thanks,
Ben

if you got a vibration when you installed new rotors at 88k, i don't think it's your rotors that were faulty...
was your vibration in the steering wheel, or in teh whole car??
if a rotor is warped, i recommend against re-surfacing or machining it... replace it... if it's warped once, and you cut it, it'll warp again...

When I bought my car from the previous owner it has vibration at high speed braking. I replaced the rotor thinking the old rotor must be warped.
The new brembo and new pad still does the same thing.
The steering shake at high speed braking, not the whole car.
I will mostly likely take your advice on replace the front with new rotor.
Do you suggest try Brembo again or just Generic one from Autozone?

I too have the same problem with vibration (in the steering) when apply on the brakes! ....and I have fairly new rotors. I am thinking these have become warped. I was contemplating resurfacing them, but it sounds like my best bet is to replace them...again!

EmeraldLexuSC3,
Did you steering wheel vibrate when braking right after you changed your rotor?
Mine was still vibrating when I changed new brembo rotor.
I am probably going to pick up the generic rotor from Autozone tonight.
I already got new Lexus OEM brake pad, shim kits and fitting kit for the whole car.

install new rotors, and use a coupel wheel nuts to hodl the rotor to the hub, and spin the rotor and have a dial indicator on the edge of the rotor to measure run-out...
my best bet is you got a bent hub... which means you need a hub and wheel bearing on that one corner...
also, from experience, ceramic pads EAT rotors... i've never seen a rotor with more than minimum thickness remaining after going thru a set of ceramic pads...

Just curious, do you have standard rotors or coss drilled? Stock or aftermarket?

Good link to information on warped rotors:
http://www.stoptech.com/tech_info/wp...rakedisk.shtml
It talks about bent hubs, pad transfer and getting rotors turned. At the end of the day you still have to grind the rotors.
I have had my OEM rotors turned once about a year ago and now they are "warped" again - steering wheel and brake pedal shake at highway speeds.

EmeraldLexuSC3, thanks for the reply.
narfy, I got two front rotors from Autozone. Where can one get a dial indicator to test for trueness of the rotor? Even if the test indicated something is wraped. How can you tell it is bent hub? as the run-out could be caused by the new rotors that is wraped.
