So I want to build new battery/ground cables
Who has done this? O.L.T. mentioned he did it in a thread I made about my alternator woes and figured why not? I can replace the stock old cables all while getting better connections for better power transfer.
I found some 4 gauge Stinger wire I bought several years ago for a 280Z project I was going to do that I never did, and started looking at the prices of the cable, terminals and such, and it's not all that pricey to do it; and would be 1000x better than using universal cables or keeping my stock units.
Has anyone on here ever removed their stock cables and made their own other than O.L.T.? If someone could tell me where the wires need to go and where other ground wires are that I could knock out, I'd appreciate it. Once I know where a cable is supposed to go, I can route it and make it the length I need myself.
According to the SC400 Charging System schematic I got from Lextreme, it appears the positive terminal has 2 wires, 1 goes to the alternator fusible link and the other to the starter motor. Then a cable goes from the post on the alternator to the other side of the alternator fusible link. Then the negative battery terminal just goes to ground somewhere. I also recall reading where O.L.T. mentioned a ground wire that goes from the intake to the firewall. And another wire I saw a picture of that goes to the block by the oil filter, I guess this is where the main cable from the negative post goes.
If anyone has done this work and can give me any pointers, I'd be more than happy to listen. Or if someone could tell me exactly how hard it's going to be to get the positive wire down to the starter, I'd appreciate that too so I'll know what I'm in for lol
