hey can anyone help me find an auto Transmission Rebuild kit online for my 1999 RX300 Front Wheel Drive???

good luck with the rebuild, but try to determine what went wrong. Else when you put it together, it may fail soon (Although I hope not).

Does this kit include everything a professional (Lexus dealer or qualified indie) would do? IOW, if a person CORRECTLY installed everything in this kit, would the trans be just as good as a professionally rebuilt one?

Your biggest opponent would be whether any bearing or gears went...those are not normally in a kit.

And we can also remember my fractured tranny pump from last year. There are a whole range of issues it could be.

Unless things have changed, Lexus does not rebuild transmissions. They swap them.

Typically the rebuild/service kits contain parts which are to be replaced every time the thing is opened up. Typically the parts that are expected to wear out or will not seal when reused. Gaskets, orings, valves etc.

What I am trying to caution is, rebuild should be more than disassemble and reassemble.

It seems Lexus is not sharing their findings with the owners. The Lexus users, on the whole, are not as technically astute as BMW owners. In the case of BMW, I have noticed that the astute owners at times find and share the root cause of the problems.

When my trans was professionally rebuilt it required a number of parts that don't come in the rebuild kit. I am not sure weather or not the untrained eye would recognize these parts as failed.

Agreed. A transmission mechanic would know what to look for. The one I knew back in Mexico took mine apart and was looking at every last nook and cranny. Thing runs really nice now especially after dumping in the Amsoil ATF.

I personally have rebuilt an Ford A4ld tranny for my son, there is no mystery in there just a lot of requirement for very detailed mechanical work and a very clean environment.
The kit included seals, clutch packs, and gaskets... Some bearings were also included, but I had to buy the solenoids and of course the torque converter is not included. Was one of the most interesting teardowns I have ever done, (note I am not a trained mechanic) but I was successful and the transmission shifted beautifully. I even made some of my own tools to set up the clutch pack. I think I missed my calling....There are gears in ours because the planetary gears are involved for the front wheel drive and AWD. The Ford tranny didnot have this stuff in it... Gears are gears, but a good eye is necessary to decide whether they have useable life left. Lexus dealerships dont touch them. They just send them to a rebuilder and charge a fortune. Oh and by the way that tranny was quoted for a rebuild at $2200 at the time and that did not include the labor to remove or replace. I did the whole thing for exactly $260. So you see the mark up. I talked to a local rebuilder who paid his employees by the piece, but if one came back he charged it back against their piece count. He said he had one man that could do 4-6 trannies a day and had never had one come back... The guy got paid well and the owner made lots of money. Some folks are very talented and get good at what they do and than there are the other ones which we wont comment about. doing it yourself is also being able to afford the down time that will go along with the job. After attempting to rebuild a Chrysler transmission(a604),and alway`s having the same problem,no way will I attempt this again. Some tools only the pro`s have access to,and is not feesable for one to buy unless you would get your money`s worth back from buying it. I.e diagnostic equip. etc.
