Yes, the factory top mounts (or any top mounts) cannot secure the Supra radiator in an SC/Soarer without that extra 1" of height.
If I remember correctly I do believe the middle section bulges down below the two mounting areas on either side as well.

Eventually I did end up allowing the override wire on the Mishimoto fan controller to be triggered by the A/C mag clutch additional wire as detailed in the post. Not sure if SC300 harnesses have such an additional wire so an alternative would be to just fit an aftermarket switch into the cabin for manual control.
The sensor that comes with the Mishimoto relay controller handles any over-temperature automatic kick on for the fan.
And there is no reason why the 96-98 TT twin fan shroud/system can’t work with this same aftermarket relay control.
