Synthetic Oil Products
I have a 98 GS300 that's been sitting for a year. I just put it back on the road. I'm going to flush the fluids and was going to switch the type of oil I use. Wanted to know if anyone has experience using Amsoil, Royal Purple or if anyone has used Synergyn ( which is a type of treatment), and what experience you've had? Also any other recommendations of stuff to try? I'm probably going to look at doing the 2JZ-GTE, swap in a year as well. I live in Calgary the car currently has over 300,000 km on it equivalent of 185,000 miles. It's been in Alberta it's whole life so it's been through a lot of extreme cold.
I'm a newbie thanks for any insight you guys can offer.

I've used Amsoil in the past on my previous car. I had a Lexus ES300 which were known for sludge problems so I paid the premium for Amsoil. Not sure if it was any better than any other snythetic though. For my GS I'm using a Castrol synthetic blend and changing the oil every 5,000.

Amsoil is great. I have been using Pennzoil Platinum in my gs3 since I have had it and in the rest of my vehicles as well. I have 225k on my 00 gs3 now, 196k on my 07 qx56, 150k on my 04 g35. They all see HWY mostly so 6,000 mile oil changes

Thanks, for the responses. I got a deal on a case of Amsoil OE synthetic. It worked out cheaper than buying any other brand of synthetic. I changed the oil this weekend, just random stuff and I'm gonna change the oil again in a week or 2 and then change the oil pan gasket n start using the Amsoil to see if I notice a difference. I wanna try the Amsoil rated for 12,000 miles but not sure if I'll be able to last that long without changing the oil LoL!

This might be a bit late, but you should give ENEOS a try. This is the only oil i will use on my 2013 ES350. Its the best I've ever used, i can feel the difference. Its a bit expensive, but i think its worth it.

Though I feel the Eneos oil is good stuff, I haven't seen much actual testing so its hard to say definitively (and then I'm still not sure anyone can say definitively).
One thing I can tell you is that any perceived performance increase is likely in your head. You simply cannot feel anything less than a 3-5% increase in power and that is arguable as well... Even royal purple testing only showed improvements in the .5 to 1% range...
Moral of the story, don't go for what feels better, because what protects better is more important...

I use ENEOS 5w30 in my LS and I can assure you I feel no difference between any other oil I have used in my car. The honest reason I use it is I started putting it my cars in Japan. Any good name brand oil is more than enough for 99% of cars unless you have some sort of high performance car.
